E-Brake release noise

I love having the auto emergency brake release, seeing how I always drive forward to get out, it'll save wear and tear on the trans over time, though I always feared having my brakes rusted shut unlikely as that may be.

What bother's me though is that every time it releases, it makes a loud metallic thump. Is there some sort of rubber bumper, and somewhere to place it to deaden the sound?

The more you use it the less chance you'll have that it might freeze up.

Look at the parking brake assembly in the car. There may be a rubber bumper missing.

probably the spring ringing when returning the pedal to normal off postion from applied because its released at once instead of released slowly with your foot

Don't think I ever used Ms. D's. Only person to ever use it was the DMV inspection guy and they don't check that anymore.

Thanks, that was what I suspected. I'll give it an eye balling, but the last time I was under the console I didn't see anything missing. I was just checking the service manual, couldn't see anything different there either. Anyone got a P/N?

I don't think so, its a solid thump like it was hitting something connected to the subframe. I was hoping there was some rubber bumper I could get, but maybe the only thing would be to use my foot to hold it, though it somewhat defeats the purpose of having a remote release.

To the best of my recollection, the release in The Blackbird thumps, too. I never considered it unusual.

My parking brake won't stay engaged at all. I push the pedal down and it comes right back up. The release cable is not being pulled on in any way. This is the first I've heard of the "automatic parking brake release". What the hell is that and could it be malfunctioning, causing my parking brake to be incapable of engaging?

Anybody know how this works?
