You don't have to be sad or mad about it. In many ways their deaths solidified rock 'n' roll's legacy. Celebrate their music and listen to it!

Hi Dom. Glad to see your still around. I don't think Rock n Roll died. They just became bigger legends quicker and music evolved.

I'm not going to debate this. The style is dead. Dead meaning it's no longer a part of Pop Culture. There are still performers, my favorite almost died here last month. It's gone, hince the most overplayed song on classic rock radio. The Music Died. Along came R+B (on the charts to million sellers) Folk, British Invasion, then what is now known as Classic Rock, Rock, Disco... exc. Rock N' Roll was a style that came and went like the rest.

I'd have to agree... What's considered "rock n roll" now a days is completely different from the "rock n roll" you're talking about. I don't even thing it can be considered "evolved" rock n roll... a lot of it is just straight up junk.

The actual day that the music died was on September 6, 1989 (22 years ago) when the 1st MTV Video Award was given out for a "Rap Music" video. Its been all down hill since then. :P JMHO.

I wish there was another way, there isn't. It's not like a car you cannot currently afford or a relationship that one screwed up. I wasn't there for the time and it's not ever going to come my way no matter what. Nothing can be done about that. I cannot work to get it, nor were there a few years where I was in it. Nothing. All I can do is listen to it. Even then the remaining performers are just a few steps away from the day they will die. Nor can they perform great either. It's a real sad site if you ever have the chance to see what these guys can do now compared to what they could have done live 50 years ago. Chuck Berry cannot play a song all the way through and Jerry Lee Lewis isn't exactly setting pianos on fire anymore. It's all gone and what's left to see is just depressing at best.

Sad day in history indeed but their music lives on.

:wave:Welcome back buddy!! (Pun intended)

I'm not back dude. I just need an engine than it's back to la la land for me. I don't feel welcomed here and don't need anymore negative energy. There are a handful of people who I'm proud to call my friends, but it hasn't been the same in the past year or so...

Hey now old school Rap is something I enjoy.

Probably one of my favorite drum beats of all time. Plus when you listen to the lyrics of this song, Hank Williams Sr. songs, it's all the same content, they all just have different ways of says the same message. The music is the only thing different.

The only thing close to a "Rock n' Roll evolution" is Punk Rock is you as me. Musicially it's very close. Some 12 bar blues, 1-4-5 and 1-6-4-5 chord structures. It's just played very quickly. So to me it's Rock N' Roll on drugs. They played this music because they hated new music, so play rock n' roll and play it angry... what you get? PUNK ROCK! Well at least the first few years of it. The only time Rock N' Roll came close to a comeback was in the early 80s with The Stray Cats. However, that was Rockabilly, NOT Rock n' Roll and yes there is a difference. I didn't know until recently Neil Young did a Rockabilly album to make his record label mad. They told him to get with the times and play some "Rock N' Roll" music... he sure did. hahaha I need to get this album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cq7C59BrFNo It's pretty much the big finger to the record label. LOVE IT! Especially those smiles though out the video. That is the coolest "F U" smile in a music video ever... or so far from what I have seen. I guess you need to know the story behind the music to see the humor, I see it in bright colors.

Listen to the bridge of this song in the middle. More Doo Wop than Rock n' Roll, but the 50's Rock N' Roll influence is there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1x4U1NxVH4

Johnny Thunders. The biggest Rock N' Roller of Punk Rock if you ask me. It's got everything. The three chords, sax, 1-4-5 chord structure. Of course no one knows him or The New York Dolls, but everyone knows Kiss... who they influenced. :mad2:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFAKpttMyXU&feature=related

The Cramps. The bastard child of Rock N' Roll that never got out. My favorite band of all time. Listening to this version of this song gets me everytime. Seems like an angry way of saying "Screw you 1980! Forget your fuel saving cars, screw your disco music, screw your flashy clothes, above all screw your complex songs!" Three chords, less than two minutes and leather jackets is all we need!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fA4TaagzF8k

Finally actual Rock N' roll. See the connection? Try that Beatles, Boston or AC/DC. All talented bands, but if you know you're stuff you'll realize Punk Rock is the only music that comes close to actual Rock N' Roll.

There are two versions of Rock N' Roll in my world: The radio version and the original version. Adam knows exactly what I mean.

Sorry to ramble on. Music is really about all I care about anymore.
