It is nice and cold here in MA. I did an oil change last weekend and I noticed this week that I get a brief scent coming from the vents when I go to warm my car up in the morning. I have been going out a little early each morning and starting the car and putting it on defrost (icy windshield). When I do this I get a sort of transmission or rear end fluid smell coming from the vents. Anyone else getting fumes or know of why I might be getting this brief scent? Note that this is a bone stock marauder and PCV system. I appreciate any ideas you guys might have or know about. Car is a 03 300A with 121,000 miles on her.
Thanks everyone!

Small leak in the exhaust near or at the headers?

Fumes could mean manifold leak, loose or broken stud. Time for SW longtubes! :)
Post a picture of the manifolds.

Check the EGR tube for leaks. Its right below the cowl.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will look into these items and see what I find. I have been hearing a little tick from the motor, so maybe that tick is a leak in the exhaust system somewhere...?

Very possible. And guess what, it will only get worse, if that's what it is. Just keep the window down when you drive, solved.

May be trading her in sooner than I had expected! Was thinking spring/summer, but may be Feb/Mar! No offense guys, but my marauder is getting to that age where there is always thoughts in the back of my mind about the car and I like driving a car (daily) that I can have a little more peace of mind about. I am planning on attending Hershey PA, but may not be with a marauder.

I've noticed that if you have any wind blowing from the rear to the front of the car, the heater/fresh air mix ( Anti fog/cabin moisture Blend) can take in some of the exhaust.

snow/ice blocking one of the exhaust tips?
If not, I'd go with an exhaust leak or egr tube.
Has this happened if you don't have the heat cranked?

Actually I think this is the problem! I have noticed the exhaust blowing by the car and where I park the wind is usually blowing the same direction and yesterday we had crazy wind. I just went out to lunch and didn't smell anything. I am just going to closely monitor it and see what happens!

If you have a ticking sound it could very well be an exhaust leak. Have the car put up on a lift use a stethoscope to listen for possible leak. Also on drivers side from snorkel to valve cover check hose for cracks. On the passerger side check hose for cracks & that PVC is not clogged if so clean it. If all the above checks out the exhaust smell is comming in by means of fresh air vents below wipers. Our high dollar cars don't have charcoal cabin filters. I get this all the time always keep rear windows cracked while driving with heat on.

Check the exhaust gaskets under the car where the catalytic converters meet the H-pipe. They might be bad.

Any oil leaks can cause this.

Car looks dry. Will have to keep an eye on my oil level. Will just have to look around and troubleshoot.
Thanks Bob! I've missed you guys!
