View Full Version : Name that rotor

I've been looking at replacing my stock size rotors, I am trying to keep it reasonable on my pocket.
The Marauder is @106K and this is prolly my fifth brake change.
My budget is as close to 300.00 or less for all four, if possible.
I know I won't be in the Command or exotic market as,
Command has not replied to my emails, they are out of my price range if I do all four.
I had two sets of Baer D/S and while they look awesome, did not perform all that well in longevity.
So far as I said in another thread, I like the Raybestos R-300 's , but that is at the very top of my price range, and I'm still waiting on a response from my inquiry .

The Mchenry Brake parts ie; Raybestos/Amico manufacturing company is only moments from my house.
The closeout brake pads I found on Rock Auto are Amico severe duty.

I asked some local sources that supply One Special Car with wholesale parts, to check on price and availability too.
Bosch, ATE, ECB, AC Delco, Motorcraft, Raybestos/Amico,Centric, have some nice offerings so far.
The DBA's would be awesome, but those are almost 200 each.
I would like to see a protection coating , good strenghth, and slotted if possible.
What have you seen, if any?
Trying to resist ordering the China junk, as I have found some unbeliveable price offerings online.
<$20.00 ea. all the way up to $180.00 per disc!

Brad,

You are more than welcome to have my factory brake rotors, they had less than 20,000 miles on them when I had them changed out by your friend a Car-X several years ago. They have been sitting in my garage on the work bench so I know they are not rusted. They are just taking up space, pick up or delivery your choice.

Brad I would be all over Jeffs' offer. I bought four Command rotors a few years ago at 30,000 miles. I was thinking it won't be long before oem wrap or get grooved up. Long story short I have 133,000 miles and the oem rotors the Commands are still in the closet. They just don't look as good as sloted rotors.

I've heard, here that the best standard rotors, (not aftermarket oversize) are the OEM's, and the best brake pads are Napa's top of the line. I have both and couldn't be happier.

That is a very gerenous offer, Holy crap you only put 10K on since you did your brake upgrade?

I did Motorcraft OEM on the GMQ the time before, they lasted a good six years and 60K.
The first set of rotors that came with the Marauder lasted about 14K until they warped.

R1 Concepts on Ebay. I paid about $300 for all 4 slotted/drilled rotors and ceramic brake pads. Best brakes in a car I've had in my life.

Race Concepts (not R1)

Ebay.
30,000???? miles
Zero warpage, pads STILL look new.

All four with pads SHIPPED from their warehouse in Cali for $199.99

Wow five sets of rotors in 106K miles. Your tough on brakes. Paula has 105K on the original OEM's. Saving some $$$ to get some Frozen Rotors slotted for her car but I think these are out of your price range. I've heard positive things about the NAPA rotors if you don't go OEM.

Looked up receipt.
Says "R1 Concepts" and price was $275 shipped, all 4, last spring.

As far as performance, mine are just perfect. You can drive my car and see for yourself.

Yeah, there used to be both, Race and R1 Concepts on Ebay. I don't know what ever happened to Race's Ebay Store? I think SC Cheesehead put Race's on as well just last year. Probably same damn company anywho? I've been happy, just starting to get a backside of pad squeal off and on. Not bad considering I never put antisqueal on them!

Actually I think I had around 15,000 on the car then. So I have only put 16,000 additional miles on it since that upgrade.
PM me if you want the rotors

Hi Jeff:wave: I'm still on the look out for that blue Expedition :)

Ebay has been good to me...2 sets of cross drilled slotted plus pads for all 4 for under 200 including shipping each time(1 for each marauder). Plus at least 4 sets for various friends' cars.

If you look online at ebay, don't just look for marauder; crownvic and gm ones fit and work just fine as long as the year matches.

If you still want to sneek a peek at it I might be able to pry it out of the wife's hands Friday.(TWSS) Then you can wander over and check it out while I am working at the range.

Let me know.

Nah, I just figured YOU drove it daily? Still find it odd that after all these years we have yet to bump into each other near your work? Except the car ofcourse. What are you drivin to work? You sold the ranger right?

Trilogy (or any s/c) cars are a fair bit more abusive to brakes than n/a cars. Might not be a fair comparison. We get them heated up quite quick!

Watching this thread, my front stockers are toast at 42K. Bought some Hawk pads for the rear, wondering about various new big brake systems.

Yeah, I have done a fair bit of 1320 passes.
Not always shutting down at the finish line and going for the hooks late and hard! Co$t$ Mo

Umm. My T car stops fine running 12.3's. Ofcourse Willwoods are night and day but costly as well. If I can't have those, then these will be fine for now.

I was referring to the intown stops. My cars brakes were horrible even though more than 1/2 the pads were left. They weren't even glazed over. But with the new brakes and new fluid, they are simply amazing. I really don't exaggerate when I say they are the best in my life. And I've owned a lot of cars, but sadly, no M5.:burnout:

There is another thread today with the same question. First, why so many brake jobs? I changed my fronts at 113,000 for the first time and
the rears at 65,000.
When I put the fronts on, I used NAPA ultra rotors. Paid $68 locally for the fronts. Rears still have original rotors on. Will change them at my next rear brake change at 130,000 miles.

Prefer the wife have the newer cars, gives me piece of mind when she is out and about for her job.
Yes, traded the Ranger for the Expedition, I then took over her 10 year old Explorer that had 79,000 miles on it. Keep an eye open for a gold Explorer with truck plates on it.

I think the pads get hard over time and just don't grip very well. IMO

That is what the brakes behaved like on the GMQ.
The rotors were ridged and the pad/friction material was glazed .
It is night and day different than before.
The wear to the lining was just approaching the slot that is cut down the middle.
