I like that surf song from Pulp Fiction. Great beat, great piano and horn playing. The great guitar playing is a given.

Misirlou by Dick Dale. He did it back in the 60s and it was redone for the movie. The song actually dates back 100s of years, it's an old Egyptian song. Someone dared him to play it on one string on the guitar and it came out like that.

I think the only song that's "Surf" is Pipeline. Also it's The Chantays. While the others are about surfing, those are pop songs. I was thinking instrumental surf songs. Either way I still love your selection!

BTW Joe Jones did California Sun first, that's his song.

Holy cow, that was a one string guitar?
Egyptian song, huh? Well rock out with your sarcophagus out.

No the guitar had all six strings, but he was only allowed to use one.

Here's his "original" version.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLWGQECdVpw&feature=related

The known version in Pulp Fiction sounds more like he was knocking off The Trashmen's version of this song. Even the screams and where they put the guitar riffs. Dick copied The Trashmen's version in the 90s.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0l-p1A03q3M

Dick did it in 1963, Trashmen in 1964. Best known for their song Surfin' Bird... Bird, bird, bird, bird is the word. That song was ripped off from The Rivingtons song A papa oom mow mow

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OB_fDwBMkCQ <<<<<<<Known version

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQrQjNNZCAo <<<<<<<<Version ripped off

Written by Kim Fowley. If you watch the movie The Runaways, he's the crazy record producer character. A Rock N' Roll God if you ask me. You can trace him back to Sandy Nelson, Skip and Flip....

Sorry to ramble on.

Paul, are The Showmen on your list the same R+B Doo Wop group that did this song?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s45hycSkcMY

What about The Tornado's? Are they the same group that had Telestar?

Or do these have the same group names?

Quite a list BTW!

WIMPS!! YER ALL WIMPS!!

You forgot Weird Al's "Trigger Happy". Think it's not a surfin' song?? Go listen to it.:banana2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMNWK3i8IV4

From Wikipedia: Trigger Happy is a song by American parodist "Weird Al" Yankovic from his album Off the Deep End. It's a style parody of many songs by The Beach Boys.
============================== ==============================

Trigger happy
Trigger happy

Got an AK47 well you know it makes me feel alright
Got an Uzi by my pillow, helps me sleep a little better at night
There's no feeling any greater
Than to shoot first and ask questions later
Now I'm trigger happy,(wooooooo) trigger happy every day

Well, you can't take my guns away, I got a constitutional right
Yeah, I gotta be ready if the Commies attack us tonight
Ba Ba Ba
I'll blow their brains out with my Smith and Wesson
That ought to teach them all a darn good lesson
Now I'm trigger happy,(wooooooo) trigger happy every day

(Oh yeah, I'm)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh baby, I'm)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh I'm so)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
Better watch out, punk, or I'm gonna have to blow you away

Oh, I accidently shot daddy last night in the den (Shot daddy in the den)
I mistook him in the dark for a drug-crazed Nazi again
(drug-crazed Nazi again)
Now why'd you have to get so mad?
It was just a lousy flesh wound, Dad
You know, I'm trigger happy,(woooooooo) trigger happy every day

Oh, I still haven't figured out the safety on my rifle yet
Little Fluffy took a round, better take him to the vet
I filled that kitty cat so full of lead
We'll have to use him for a pencil instead
Well, I'm trigger happy, trigger happy every day

(Oh yeah, I'm)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh baby, I'm)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh I'm so)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
Better watch out, punk, or I'm gonna have to blow you away

Come on and grab your ammo
What have you got to lose?
We'll get all liquored up
And shoot at anything that moves

Got a brand new semi-automatic weapon with a laser sight
(shoot to kill now shoot to kill)
Oh, I'm prayin' somebody tries to break in here tonight
(shoot to kill now shoot to kill)
I always keep a Magnum in my trunk
You better ask yourself, do you feel lucky, punk?
Because I'm trigger happy, trigger happy every day

(Oh yeah, I'm)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh baby, I'm)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh I'm so)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
Better watch out, punk, or I'm gonna have to blow you away
Better watch out, punk, or I'm gonna have to blow you away
Better watch out, punk, or I'm gonna have to blow you away
Better watch out, punk, or I'm gonna have to blow you away
