View Full Version : 5 TVs 1 Too Many?

Last nite I am behind a Caprice w/ what looked like 3 TVs. One in the rear middle and 1 behind each front seat head rest.
When we got closer we realized there were also 2 mounted in rear window, (you can see part of the headrest screen just to the right of the middle screen)! How thoughtful to think of the people driving behind him. I pulled up next to him to ask what station he was broadcasting on so I could also hear the program but he did not understand my question.
It was very "entertaining". American ingenuity at it's finest.

I thought the 2 behind the headrests and the large middle TV are cool. The 2 in the rear window are bizzarre.

Two behind the headrest and one up front is good, anything over that is like dumping $in a trash can

I do not know what you mean by placing judgement. We all use our judgement 100's of times a day usually for making decisions. You just placed judgement by posting "We are not car gods and shouldn't place judgement" and by using your judgment to "keep it to myself".

His very public expression of 5 TVs including 2 in the rear window for all to see is his public expression, am I not also allowed to publically express myself?

We are increasingly being told to keep more and more to ourselves in a society dominated by an omnipotent Gov't. Soon the Gov't will find it easier to tell us what to do instead of what not to.

His public expression of 5 TVs is no more or less than my public expression on his 5 TVs.

I think what Nate is trying to say is that (and correct me if I am wrong Nate) Some people on MM.Net have a lack of tolerance....

They see something they deem innapropriate or tasteless, and cannot wait to post up how this "something" makes them feel....... As if somehow disparriging/pointing a finger at this situation will let everyone know how they feel, and what they approve of or do not......... I'm a pretty conservative guy, but we gotta get over this self rightious indignation thing.

After all, there are people out there, who look down their noses at people who make their car so powerful that it can spin the tires without a brake stand.....

I am in Nates camp on this one. If a person wants to go out and spend his money on something that I would not, I am all for it. May not like it, but its his interpertation of the car culture thing....

Now if the guy is selling drugs, robbing people and using those proceeds to build his dream vehicle............. He can burn alive in it.:burnout:

Thanks for the explanation. I don't see anything posted that I would not hesitate to tell to my relatives or friends had they pulled in my driveway with their 5 TVs which is 2 too many.

No worries Sailsman.... Just offering some balance.:banana2: IMHO Tolerance is not a blanket. Its a case by case thing. Some folks here make it into a one size fits all kinda thing and I am kinda intolerant of that:D

Some people on MM.Net have a lack of tolerance....

Personally, I think all of this "Tolerance" stuff is :bs:

We all are supposed to tolerate just about anything and everything and not judge someone else's actions, activities, or anything else.

However, they don't feel the need to be tolerant of OUR views at all. Sounds rather hypocritical to me. If I am only able to express those opinions that you approve of, then that is a form of censorship and intolerance in itself.

In the meantime .... we are gradually being taught to tolerate stupidity, incomptence, laziness, corruption, poor taste, erratic behavior, abnormality and lots of other things out of the norm.

This is why we have school shootings like at Columbine and VA Tech. Everyone knew the people involved were nutcases but just didn't want to "judge" and raise the flag based on a misguided concept of tolerance.

This is why we have political shootings in Tucson, AZ because everyone knew the guy was a flake; but just didn't want to say anything because we're taught to tolerate erratic individuality.

This is why 11 of the 9/11 Hijackers were able to get driver's licenses in the Commonwealth of Virginia and avert airport screening security/ID checks because no one wanted to question their eligibility to even be in the country because of tolerance.

This is why the Education system in the USA is being dumbed down every day because Johnny ain't dumb as a box of rocks .... he's got ADD, ADHD, PTSD, or some other problem that causes him to skip school, miss assignments, not turn in homework, and screw the pooch on tests. Maybe he really is just plain Dumb.

This is why thousands of abortions are performed every week, month and year.

When we can tolerate killing babies .... we can tolerate just about anything. And we are seeing the results of that misguided toleration in every aspect of society....... and it AIN'T MAKING US BETTER. Its just encouraging more of the same aberrant behavior.

WRT -- this thread. I think that 5 TVs in a car is stupid overkill. Personally, I don't like it. I really don't have to like it and can say so. If he wants 5 TVs in his car, that's his right. My opinion should not matter and probably won't change his mind anyway. If I can tolerate his foolishness. He can tolerate my opinion. :P

Umm.... really? A thread about some dude having 5 TVs in his car somehow got switched up about lack of tolerance in this society and on MM.net?!

IMHO.... It's not that serious. Dude's got 5 TVs in his car, so what. I, (like many), think it's ridiculous and overkill. He obviously doesn't. I'm not placing "judgment" on him, just stating my personal preference. Same as preferring a silver birch over a DTR or stock rims to aftermarket. It's a matter of personal preference. Going from 5 TV's to Columbine is a little extreme but I understand your POV Blue.......

People who know me, know that when it really matters, I speak my mind. I would not put 5 TV's in my car (even if I could afford it), but think its every persons right to do what they want to their own vehicle. By putting 5 TV's in a vehicle it may offend a another person's sensibilities, but it does not infringe on personal space, or freedom of movement ect.

We all have our reasons for driving what we drive, and modding it how we choose. As long as the funds to modd have been obtained by legal means, I say go for it, though I may not like the final product.

I remain tolerant, until someone gives me a reason not to be tolerant. I have full confidence in my ability to know when not to be tolerant. 5 TV's just aint it (for me). A rush to judgement by some who never miss an opportunity to let everyone know their low tolerance level? Well, thats another story. Guess that comes from having as many friends from "the hood" as I do from the upper crust of society.

No flames intended, just a cautionary tale is all:burnout::beer:

Jesus Christ! How do we go from t.v.s in a Chevy to mentioning school shootings, AZ shootings, 9/11 and abortions. You've got some anger there buddy. Religion is the number one killer in the world, yet it's looked upon as good by the followers... but everyone rebels against each other because everyone says everyone else is wrong.

As for the car, it's all subjective. You don't like it. Simple as that. There is no right or wrong for this particular thread.

Passing judgement on my post? Where is the tolerance?

Everything I posted I would say to a friend or relative who pulled in my driveway with 5 TVs 2 too many.

A relative makes fun of me for having my oil analyized as though my car were alive and I am having blood work. Do you think I should admonish her?

Alright, we can talk about whether it's good taste or not to have 5 TV's, personally I think it's just a manner of showing off saying "look what I have" which is their God Given right to do so, as is my God Given right to critique it. When you put it public view, guess what? You're subjected to public opinion.

Now, with that having been said, what no one wants to bring up is the safety issue caused by this. TV's in the rear window, where no one except other drivers can see them? It's a safety problem and one that should be illegal. TV's in cars in my opinion shouldn't be allowed at all.

I don't care if it entertains the kids, it's a distraction to drivers on the road, especially for those with a low concentration threshold. Every year when I was a kid, we traveled by car from Illinois to the West Cost, I never had a TV. I slept, listened to music, read books, did crosswords, there is plenty to entertain without showing movies.

Have we really become so dependent on Hollywood? I mean, I'm gonna go out on a Tuesday night, So I got to TIVO my programs. Oops, power went out, thats alright, I'll watch it on Hulu to catch up. Hulu doesn't have it? well I'll go to the networks website. They don't have it? Well I guess I'll just get it on netflix. They don't have it? Well I'll wait till the season comes out on DVD. What? It's not coming out on DVD? Guess I'll watch it in my car.

And really? Linking all fo this to school shootings and abortions?????

Seems like a stretch. We always look for someone to blame. The neighbors should have known, the friends should have known. The bottom line is, when someone is willing to go to all ends to accomplish that whcihc they have set out to do, you can't stop them. They will find a way.

And for what's worth, we really shouldn't talk about abortion on this sight, it is much too volatile an issue that has many sides and many different belief's. It can take us down a road about debating religion, which probably is not a good thing as it is a topic that is very dear to very many hearts and can blow up very quickly. Just my opinion.

I'm sure Oprah will talk about all of these topics, and not to worry, I'm sure we can watch on someones TV as we drive down the road.

No, I got your point, I just thought it was a stretch to go from TV's to abortion. If you are going to put your car on that much display in public view, you will be opened to public ridicule. I fail to see how that get's linked to Columbine.

Either comment on the TV's or don't, but it doesn't need to get entwined with everything thats wrong with the world. Just my opinion, you are free to disagree.
