I was wondering about oil... What do most of you guys run? I have an '03 bone stock Marauder that just turned 18,000 miles. So I'm trying to decide between the Ford synthetic 5W-20, Mobile 1 or possibly Amsoil? Any input would be appreciated

I have been using Motorcraft 5W-20 Synthetic blend for years without a problem . Some like full synthetic. Some swear by Mobil 1. Others like Royal Purple or AmsOil. Just get a quality oil and change it regularly. You'll be OK.

I use Mobile 1 full synthetic 0w30. As stated above, use a good quality semi synthetic or full synthetic, change oil and filter every 5k and you'll be fine.

I use Castrol Syntec but the most important thing is to keep up with routine oil changes. Call it overkill, but I still change my oil every 3months/3000miles even with synthetic!

Castrol Syntec 5~20 changed @ 7500mi intervals.

I usually run Castrol Syntec and change at 3500-4000. Sometimes I will change oil brands if there is a good sale on a different full-synthetic. Always use a Motorcraft FL820S filter.

Today's oils are so much better and today's engines run so much cleaner than those of even 15 years ago that changing ANY oil at less than 5,000 miles is a total waste that buys you nothing. The general rule of thumb, for an engine in sound mechanical condition and not driven under unusual circumstances, is 5,000 miles on conventional oil and up to 10,000 on synthetic.

Want a valid example, not just my opinion? The 2011 Mustang specs 10,000-mile oil changes on Motorcraft 5W-20.

I used to change my oil at 3,000 mile intervals...even when using Mobil 1 5W-30!
Not anymore.
After reading about the quality of today's oils (regular dino & synthetics), I've adjusted my oil change intervals:
I change the '89 CV's standard 5W-30 oil & filter at 5,000 miles
I change the Marauder and my wife's Subaru's Mobil 1 5w-30 oil & filter every 5,000 -> 6,000 miles.

Get an oil analysis done. I use Blackstone Labs. The kit is free. They will tell you what's happening inside your engine and make recommendations.

I have been running the Motorcraft semi-syn 5-20 during the Winter and 5-30 during the summer.
I have had several oil anal and for the way I use it 4,500 miles between changes although I usually change it sooner.

I use ford synthetic or mobil 1. As for oil change intervals, don't listen to manufacture on that one. If they say 5,7500 or whatever. Stick with 3000-3500 also depending on your driving style and where you live. Manufacture says higher number of intervals to make their cars cheaper in maintenance, especially for fleet cars. Looks better on paper.

5-20 synthetic blend and 820-S filter since 7811 miles. I change it every 2500-3000 miles.
