I am confused. I am pretty sure we all know the song. The only reason I am wondering is because the vocals/melody sounds just like a song that came out years before this one.
What do you think?

1:07-1:19 and off and on through out the song. The laaaaaaaaa la la la la la's.
Here is what he ripped off in my opinion for the vocals/melody. We can tell those are vocals.

What you're hearing in "Crocodile Rock" sounds to me like vocals and keyboards together. As far as the other song, there are similarities, but the melodies are different enough that I wouldn't have picked up on them being similar.

First time I heard this on the record, I thought it was keyboards, here's Eddie doing it live in a Les Paul tribute

As for the 3 Dollar Englishman, I'm going to go with "Falsetto vocals for $300 Alex"

Vocals.
When performed live the part in question is sung, not played.
If it is electronic, they mimicked fluctuating in and out of tune like a voice would do, which doesn't seem likely worth the effort, especially in the 70s.
As for the "ripoff," I don't hear it. It really isn't even that close. I didn't listen to the entire recording, but from the line I think you mean -- there are so many songs with that chord progression that eventually you are bound to run into similarities.
I think you are comparing timbre and not the actual notes being used, which are different enough to discount a "rip off" by any stretch.

I disagree, but I see your point.
1-6-4-5 is my favorite structure. Then 1-4-5 and 12 bar blues.
