I am seriously considering bidding on this bike. Is there anything that screams "run away"?

02' IIRC, that was the first year for the V rod, I tend to stay away from any first year stuff.

I am surprised there are no dyno sheets, I had them with mine after I added the power commander, you just about need to dyno it after adding it as well, maybe that's why it was only ridden 400 miles after the work?

FWIW, I had 21k in PARTS for my Road King, since I did 99% of the labor, I had hardly anything in that column. The seller had to pay for his labor, trust me, that's about half of that 18k.

If you want it, go for it, looks like a nice bike, I would change a few things myself, but what do I know? At least your not looking at a Sportster.:shake:

The oil trail and parts on the ground is the H-D version of GPS. :D

All I know about Harley's is they are poor quality. You are just paying for the name and cool looks like a Chevy.

They are actually functional, and the gas tank on v rods is under the seat. I would rather have some big air intakes there as oppsed to trying to straddle them coming out of the side.

That motor, as well as most TC's don't leak, now maybe if we were to compare the leakage of you old 351 to a new HD.......... :P :D

lol that oil adds character. im extremley prejudiced, i grew up on all british bikes, the first bike my dad let me ride of his when i was 14 was his 1952 AJS and after that it was if you can kick it and start it you can ride it. i have a Norton 750 commando project bike too

but no lie one of my best friends bought a brand new 883 sportster its a 07 and he didnt have it 2 months and it was leaking oil out the rocker box cover and the speedo broke. i rode it once from work to wawa for lunch its like a mile down the road i got off of it at the store and rode my bike back and swore i would never ride one again.

A Sportster isn't a Twin Cam, and yes EVO's do leak.

I sold Harley's for a living. They are anything but poor quality. But the design is dated because that's what the people want. And yes, they are way overpriced.

The V-rod motor was designed by Porche not HD,
I would never buy a Harley, however if i was being forced I would buy a V-rod.

The rear fender is butt ugly, no pun intended. Looks like the bike for you Rex.

You asked, here I will chime in: to my eyes that thing is hideous (no offense). Goofy rear fender/"custom" paint. There are plenty of nice Harleys for sale for around the same money. Re: Vrods; probably a good bike but looks like a japanese "cruiser" to me. The Vrod is/was a bike that Harley built from an exisiting engine. With Porsche engineering Harley tried to compete in the World Championship series but never quite made the cut. In the end, they decided to use that motor in a new streetbike. Vrods do not hold their resale compared to air cooled big twins. For same amount of money as that Vrod I would suggest a nice slightly used Super Glide or Softail. Ill attach a few examples from our local CL to this post. As for the "reliability" issues, most of these complaints are made by folks that have never owned one. Ive been on bikes for 40 years now and have owned several big Harleys for half that time and have never had a breakdown, electrical problem or oil leak on any of them. Thats a fact.

From what i read when looking into them, it is one of those bikes you either love or hate to the extremes. There is no in between.

No offense taken. Everyone has their own tastes. Thanks for the links, but just like you do not like the looks of this particular bike, I just can not stand the spindly look (strictly my opinion) of most of the Harley street bikes. My tastes drew me to the Marauder and then I took everything a step further by making it beefier in appearance and performance. Maybe I have a Napoleon complex I am unaware of.... ah, c'est la vie!
