as stated in another post. motor is knocking. so i will be hustling my ass off to get it fixed. but i would like to know opinions. should i stroke the lt1, ls1 swap or rebuild the lt1 in it...the shop is working with me tremendously though. what can i swap over if i do a ls swap or stroke?

lt1 currently has
Lt4 hot cam kit
Hooker headers
MSD ignition
Comp cam roller rockers
Comp cam push rods
160 degree thermostat
2.5 inch pipe with x-pipe and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers
Fuel pump replaced 5k miles ago
2800 stall tourqe converter

thanks

+1, if you're gonna do it, go big.

Although you can't really lose with an LS1 swap...

Ls1 swaps are expensiveeeee. Doing one now in my friends 69 camaro. And he's already several thousands into it. Keep your current mods and do a 383 stroker. No point in letting your old pars go to waste.

It all depends what internals are going in.
Are they gonna reuse the heads?
You also want to make sure what are the plans for your car s/c or Nitrous.
I would do a 11.1 CR with a 200 shot and a Nitrous cam with a stout build.

and fill me on on this build youre referring tomy friends 95 Trans am.
383 stroker, p&p heads, nitrous cam, ford 9" rearend, 3.73's, 3600 stall from Yank, 200 shot.
10.1@ 136mph at the 1320
and yes from an LT1.
offcourse it wont make your SS a 10 sec car but it will sure do mid to low 11's

helluva set up. i know my boat wont run 10s without a blower but im not looking for super track times. car may see the track once to see what it does. he is getting prices tomorrow on stroking it with a bigger cam... and just a regular rebuild. worst come to worst i'll rebuild the lt1 back to normal then save for a built motor & tranny to put me 400+rwhp n/a

If it were mine. And I thought of this when I had my 97 Camaro SS. 383 LT1 http://www.golenengineservice.com/
Or a LSX swap. Perhaps a 427LSX motor. Another cool idea would be to get ahold of a LT5 DOHC motor. That would look perfect in the engine bay too
Money wise. Go with a 383LT1 cam and a nice set of heads.

As long as they'll put that in writing, along with everything they are going to do to the car.

It seems like a pretty fair price, you could do most of it yourself for less, but for turnkey, that's a good deal.

You've never stated how many miles are on the engine? If you're looking to keep the costs down, just have them do a complete overhaul of the engine...won't do you any good to stroke the engine if say you're having valve spring issues or the injectors are clogged.

4500= stroked, new aluminum heads, bigger cam etc..

2900= rebuild of what i have

..i could do it myself for less then 2900?

128 shop checked compression & spark ...it was fine. after seafoam the problem went away but then the knock came.

You could not do it yourself for $2900 and should not do it by yourself unless you've done multiple rebuilds before. As for the knock, I don't know why seafoam would cause a knock to start. Must've been some underlying issue is my guess.

yes Ive read seafoam reveals the problems of the motor, and thats what it did. im kind of pissed but better now then later or driving a distance and it goes. but 2900 out the door is what i was quoted on a bottom end rebuild. i'll do that then sell the motor to drop the new one thats being machined ...bigger cam, stroked, heads, pistons etc ...

Dude, there's no point in spending the money on a rebuild then turning around and selling it because you won't make that money back. If you're gonna do a build, just use the engine you already have and buy new parts.

Lots of guys are doing the LQ4 or LQ9 6.0 then doing a 403 or 408 stroker. Can find one for around 1-1500k. Essentially a GM truck motor. LS1 guys are doing this with a hot cam.
