My 03 "a" just freaked out. Driving to work in town (30mph) all ok then O/D light started blinking and check engine light right after that. A bunch of codes come up. both O2 sen. not working, a bunch of tranny solenoid codes. tranny is in safe mode and the engine is maxed out rich. only have 1-2 gear and engine is running extremely bad, no power. Mech over here said it is looking to him that I have a short in a 12 volt switched hot that is confusing the OBD 2. Has anyone had this happen and could you help?

Never heard of that happening. Start checking all the underhood wiring, battery, alternator, etc.
Did the car overheat?

Check for the cables rubbing/chaffing on the back of the valve covers/heads. Get the car washed or run through any puddles? First light to come on before any actual problem was the OD light blinking? Tranny electrical issue?

Kinda sounds likecthe main wiring harness on the driver side. Between rear of cam cover and firewall. There is a brace at the wiper cowl that is pretty sharp in there.....
Good luck.

It's always more helpful if you post the actual codes, not just an approximate description.

For everything to go berzerk like that, you would need a main wire to ground out.

Has your car been driven pretty often as of late? Could of been a small critter that decided to snack on some wires.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It had 11 codes mostly in the 744 to 760 range. I will need to look in my book again. I have had to drive it all winter so I kinda doubt the critter thing, although stranger things have happened. Nice day today so I will start searching the main harness by the wiper tonight. That sounds like a logical place to start. Also, the O2's are not working and the plugs are now fouled due to all the raw fuel and it sounds like I am only running on 3 cyl. So depressing. Thanks again guys. Happy Motoring!

Or a ground to "unground out"...

check that wiring harness, but also check the alternator if the diode is bad you could be getting a back feed of power to the ecm causing your issue. check for water ingress in the trans harness

OK, Who do I write the check to? The main wiring hub mounted under the brake booster fell off of the mount and dropped onto the steering shaft. Broke an Orange/white wire. 2 minutes to find, 10 minutes to fix. possibly saving me hundreds of dollars! Thank you guys for all your help. I owe each of you a cold one at the next Marauderville.
