Might be cameras used for traffic flow data. Like the video they use on the news to show where the traffic jams are.

You right that can be possible, but i heard many people Especulating that if you pass at high speed in a crossroad the camera will record you to send an speed ticket trough mail, I found this suspicious. ????????

I know for a fact that in Miami they are all over the place. Speed traps are ok but cameras on traffic lights are too much. Nowadays these I don't know who, want to control everyones businesses.

Cameras on traffic lights are common around here. They are used to take a picture of your rear license plate if you run a red light. I have no problem with that at all. I see way too many dirtbags who fly through intersections just as the light in my direction turns green.

cameras have been on traffic lights for years, obey the law, and they are meaningless to you!

Cameras on traffic lights are common around here. They are used to take a picture of your rear license plate if you run a red light. I have no problem with that at all. I see way too many dirtbags who fly through intersections just as the light in my direction turns green.

Red light cameras in the DC and Northern Virginia area are fairly common. Many think that they are just there to increase revenue for the city or the county. Need to make sure that the "contract" arrangement doesn't tie profit to the number of tickets issued. DC found that the cameras were "short timing" folks in order to boost the number of tickets issued by mail. They reworked the contract to fix this problem.

Statistics have shown that red light cameras reduce the number of T-Bone accidents and fatalaties at major intersections due to red light runners. On the other hand, the number of rear end accidents increase because people slam on their brakes. Of course, the injuries in the rear end accident are not nearly as severe as the T-Bone ones.

Many oppose the red light cameras on the basis of privacy. Of course, the privacy birds don't want a pic showing up at the house with the blonde in the front seat when the guy is married to a brunette or vice versa. :P

If you decide to run a Red LIght .... your expectation of "privacy" just went out the window. If they reduce the red light runners .... then I support it.

Just saw two "red runners" on Saturday when I was headed to Maryland. The light had been "dead red" for about 3 seconds when they both went through. Didn't even hit their brakes. :shake:

Laser jammers are not enforced by the FCC, as they don't enforce the light waves as of yet. Good luck making that charge stick.....

It has been a couple of years ... But my local CHP shared with me that they were illegal to own in California. Personally, don't know how they work ... I don't own one and no desire to.

Speeding while running a detector is like riding a motorcycle with a cage and training wheels, or having unprotected sex with NO one, where's the adventure in it? I can't stand someone who speeds than slams on the brakes when they see, or think they see, a police car. "Whooo, I buried the needle, good thing I have a detector, I may have gotten caught!" Congratulations, get the **** out of my way.

A detector cannot detect red light cameras, first of all. You must rely on the database to tell you where they are -- which, if your area is anything like mine, means YOU have to be the one to send them in and hope they get updated regularly. Some of the ones I sent in were improperly placed on the GPS and they had to redo them -- not sure if they were ever placed properly as I stopped watching.

The only defense against the cameras is to mask your plate, which more and more often is becoming illegal. In some places even "clear" plate covers are a fine nowadays. ("clear" meaning the light diffusing kind at the angles cameras would be trying to read them)

Or just don't run red lights or speed where the cameras are, but in that case the cameras are doing exactly what they are designed to do.

This is true the traffic Cameras are picked up by GPS, Escort has Incorporated a update through the INTERNET, and revise the locations as soon as they can, as long as your Radar detector is legal in the State you are driving in, then it is not illegal to jam laser. I have it in my car and it works perfect.

The NEW Passport 9500ix takes the next great leap forward in radar and laser protection. It starts with ESCORT's test-winning performance, which sets the standard for true long-range radar and laser protection. In addition we've added "AutoLearn" which utilizes our patented GPS technology to identify and eliminate false alerts automatically. This "artificial intelligence" creates the world's first fully automatic radar and laser detector - You drive. It learns. End of story. Nothing could be easier.
We've also addressed the increasing number of safety cameras throughout the U.S. and Canada, including red-light and fixed position speed cameras, by programming thousands of these locations into to its memory. As you approach these high-risk locations, the PASSPORT 9500ix alerts you in advance, keeping you up to date and ticket-free. To stay updated, simply connect it to your computer and download the most recent updates from there website.

AutoLearn: Artificial Intelligence Protection
Our new AutoLearn feature uses artificial intelligence to automatically "learn" (by exact location and frequency) each radar signal and determines if it's a real threat. The result is the most accurate long-range protection in the industry and a permanent solution to false alarms.
DEFENDER® Database
Speed traps and camera locations are everywhere. It's a stretch of highway where they always sit, or it's a back road that quickly changes from 45 mph to 25 mph within a few hundred feet. You don't always remember, but now your PASSPORT 9500ix will. We've addressed the increasing number of "safety" cameras installed throughout the U.S. and Canada, by including red light and fixed-position speed cameras. Each model is shipped pre-loaded with thousands of these camera locations stored in its memory. As you approach these locations, the 9500ix will alert you in advance, keeping you up-to-date and ticket-free. You can even add your own "hot spots" using our exclusive Mark Location feature. And, since the number of "safety" cameras continues to grow each day, we've made it simple and easy to keep you updated.
Web Ready
The PASSPORT 9500ix is the first radar and laser detector that can be easily updated using your computer and the power of the internet. Simply connect your detector to your computer, log on to our website, and download the most up to date locations. You can even back up your data or update the detector's operating software, (firmware), if needed. The database is updated weekly, and Escort provides 90 days of downloadable updates for free. DEFENDER® Database Subscriptions (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/store/home.php?cat=255) are also available to keep you up to date on future Speed Traps, Red Light Cameras and Speed Cameras.
Variable Speed Sensitivity - On Demand Performance
Our patented GPS technology allows us to make your driving experience free from distractions and less complicated. For example, both models use GPS to vary X and K-band sensitivity based on your vehicle's speed. This allows the detector to provide alerts based on what the vehicle is actually doing. At highway speeds you need the best long range sensitivity you can get. At slower speeds, the sensitivity can be adjusted to further reduce unneeded alerts, especially when you're not at risk. We've even changed the actual alert to a short double-tone when your vehicle is moving less than 20 mph.
Simple and Intuitive Controls
All of products are pre-set and ready to go. However, each of them can be set up for your specific type of driving and personal preference. Our Preferences option allows you to change several options, including which radar bands you'd like to monitor, which meter you would like to see when a signal is detected and whether you'd like to see your vehicle speed during the initial alert. Regardless of how you drive, we've got you covered.
SpeedAlert™ Provides Vehicle Speed During Each Alert
The PASSPORT 9500ix radar detector provides all the information you need to make an intelligent decision during each and every alert. The radar or laser band, signal strength, and now your vehicle speed are displayed during an alert to help you make the best possible decision.
Crystal-Clear Voice Alerts
PASSPORT's unique voice alerts provide clear communications for alerts and menu options. Now you can keep your eyes on the road without unnecessary distractions.
AutoVolume
The PASSPORT 9500ix will adjust the alert volume level based on the ambient noise in the vehicle. Using a miniature microphone, the 9500ix monitors ambient noise and will increase the volume level automatically to ensure you take notice even with loud music, passenger conversations or excessive wind noise. Now each alert will be heard so you can react if needed.
