Have you had the battery tested? May want to do that first to determine the condition (unless it's already died on you). I went with an OEM replacement, decent price and warranty.

There have been several thread about batteries in the past year or so. Mine gave out in August 2010 and I replaced it with the OEM Motorcraft BXT-65-650. The first one lasted 7.5 years (92 months).
Here's one thread on batteries with opinions >>>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=65095&highlight=Motorcraft

Certainly nothing wrong with a more powerful battery, but don't overspend if you don't have to. If you're not subjecting the vehicle to severe service, or if you don't live in a very hot or cold environment, you may not benefit from the higher battery capability.

Put a new DECA battery in my son's 2002 Sable. Damn thing sounds like it's going to turn the engine right off it's mounts and out of the hood. Finally found a good battery for that car.

the guy at the ford parts counter said 850 cca would put strain on the starter. ever hear of such a thing?

that makes no sense! the starter puts a load on the battery, not the other way around

Just replaced mine with an oem 850cca The small difference in price justified having the maximum amps

Dying batteries are something I REALLY won't stand too long before I will replace it.
Last 3 of 4 cars I had recently I never bought a battery for!!
Put 115K on my 2001 same Wall Mart Everstart put in just before I bought the car.
94 Had a new looking Diehard Gold still kicking now after 40K miles
Even the old 93 $250 special finally needed a jumpstart after a year in the woods with a blown trans and 50K of use. Got $200 for it for scrap too!!!

I'm still on my first battery for my 300A (that I bought new 8 years ago this month). When it finally gives up, you can bet I'll replace it with another Motorcraft battery. (I have never had a battery last much that 4-5 years in the past.)
