So im making my first cross country trip in my Vortech'd Marauder. My concern is finding 93 while on the road... Would bringing a few cans of octane booster and filling with 91 or 92 (if that's all they got) be sufficient?

Octane booster is a waste of money, will only change the rating by decimal points.

Dude you are fine. I've done it and even 91 is fine, you're just crusing, not drag racing.

What Dom said as long as not running the crap out of it 91-92 is fine west of KC 93 becomes nil. That is a main reason I opted for low comp Alluminator in my SB I want to be able to go anywhere. but again as long as youre not running the piss out of youre car 91-92 is a OK
Out here in the west even 92 is really really hard to come by. Get into the high altitude states like CO, WY and MT and you'll find 85.5 sold as regular and often the "premium" is 89 or 90.

Guys, keep in mind its all in the tune, Matt if your tuned on the edge I would take some timing off for the trip. And the fact that your not going wot doesn't mean the motor is not pinging. All it takes is a load on low rpms.
What is your timing set up as at 12psi?
How far is cross country?
Take a few 5gal. cans of race fuel with you if you're really worried about it.
Speed shop here sells 109 octane (unleaded) in 5gal. cans for about 60 bucks.

Most people don't realise, nor do the octane boost purveyors WANT them to, that when they say "raises octane by 4-7 "points", what they actually mean is 4-7 TENTHS of an octane point...i.e: 91 octane becomes 91.4 to 91.7...
Hey -Matt- does this mean that you're coming to Kentucky? :D

Hello Matt,
The Derelict and SC Cheesehead are right about the octane booster so don't wast your money. When you get to the states that are at high elevations and can only get 91 max don't worry much because you will probably lose 2 psi at 5000 feet from sea leval. Higher elevations use lower octane gas because the motor has less volumetric efficency thus lower compression and can get away with the crap gas. If still worried keep your foot out of it and enjoy the view.

Use your SCT XCAL - Global Timing -1 degree or -2 tops (very hot etc) and you'll be fine. So where are you headed?
Edit: you could add a Fitch fuel inline catalyst to pep up fuel that's already kinda stale when you buy it.

Heading from texas to south florida then to georgia then back to texas.
My tune is a 93 tune
Ive been forced to put lower octane gas in her before and it didnt seem to make much difference
Can i do a pre search for gas stations that have 93?

Can i do a pre search for gas stations that have 93? i know for a fact that here in FL you wont have a problem finding premium.
reason for the timing ? is my car at 17* was pulling timing at 12 psi on a 80* day.

Shouldn't have much trouble on that route finding 93 octane.

driving from san angelo to detroit (26hrs there 24hrs back) with a 3 hr nap break both ways proved no problem with the Eaton. However, i did have to get my trans rebuilt while i was there but it was original with little maintainance and 140k on it.....it was time.

I know you're looking for 93, but here is a site that lists most the gas stations in the US that are Ethanol-Free.
http://pure-gas.org/
They have a list of which stations have 93 and GPS coordinates so that you may plan your trip accordingly.
