I tried this stuff before and it seems to help the broken wrist pin for a temp fix, but more to silence the noise. Does anyone know if this product actually does anything... or does it just put your engine problems on mute?

I might need to put more in soon. The noise is coming back and at random while cruising on the highway I'll see a good amount of smoke for a few seconds at a time. Just at random. Wondering how much longer I can limp around in this thing before Zack can get to it.

Is there something better out there?

friend with a high mileage chevy said it stoped consuming oil but that was a sbc

I have used it before, but that was on high-mileage 2V NPI motors with bad valve seals.
It definitely stopped the oil burning, worked for like 80K miles.
Long-term effects W/ a 4V, not too sure.
I'd say if you're going to be rebuilding soon anyway, no harm, no foul.
YMMV

or does it just put your engine problems on mute?^^^this^^^

Assuming you're talking about the additive "Oil Stabiliser"and not about their synthetic oil, it's nothing more than concentrated viscosity index improver. All it does is raise the thickness of the oil by one grade. IOW, it makes a 5W-30 into 10W-40. Sleazy used car dealers will use it on a bad motor to mask the problems.

As to how long you can drive, there's no way to tell. Just pay close attention to any sudden changes in sound or the way it runs.

"Lucas Oil, Thoughts?"

Yes, goes good on pancakes...

In your situation, I would add some 5w30 synthetic to thicken it a little. I wouldn't throw Lucas in there just because I don't know how the hydraulic lash adjusters would do with thicker viscosities.
