Got into the office this morning and was having a helluva time getting around on the I-net. (very slow response times)

Users complaining about performance and wait times while trying to do their jobs.

Contacted the WAN Team and after looking around on my router, found several threads sending/receiving a LOT of packets.

MPLS link out @ 3% (46k)
MPLS link in @ 97% (1.5MB)

Considering we are only running a Full T, we were experiencing 100% line saturation.

Dennie gave me the IP addresses to the threads and I DWRCC'd to the machines and killed their replication .exe's (normally scheduled) in an attempt to gain bandwidth.

Then... Another IP popped up that was my WSUS server talking to the upstream WSUS. Killed the service on that to no avail.

WINTEL Administrator decided to just shut down my WSUS server thru RDP, and now the I-net is acting the way it should.

Whew,.. Morning MM.net!

Time for a smoke.

:D

Sounds like a rough morning Mike, you guys are only running a full T? I would think at least a T-3 or maybe a DS-3

Yeah.

What sucks is I can VPN from home and get more work accomplished, providing I shut off the proxy.

Insight Broadband at home - 10MB pipe.

Of course, that depends on other users on my node and where my ISP has their load leveling threshold set.

Division office has two 50MB pipes in the building and their LAN is a point to point.

Must be freaking nice as I only have a fast 100 LAN.

Do you have any replica WSUS servers to help with load? I guess I should ask how big the company is first!
21mb dwn and 8mb up @ home. Even better at work...

I cannot tell you how large the company is due to consolidation and downsizing.

Medium size all across North America would be my guess?

The upstream WSUS pulls all MS updates, and once released after tasting, the downstream WSUS servers synchronize.

My server synch'd at 6:00AM and finshed at 6:00AM (no updates) but was still working it's azz off. So we shutdown the box.

No replica WSUS here.

Downstream WSUS servers are replica servers (replica mode) if they are communicating with an upstream WSUS server and not direct to Microsloth. :)
Anyone using it for Frostwire? :D

Translation-Gay Porn was taking forever to load

Translated Translation - Suspicious IP address was on my router originating in Atlanta, Georgia that was downloading inappropriate material across the Wide Area Network.

Several DOS commands later, and a few tricks up our sleeves, we were able to pinpoint the exact location of said IP address in Atlanta.

That IP address is now blocked from our Subnet.

Federal authorities have been contacted, and they should be dropping in on Brad's computer; Oooooh, right about now.

Did you see where IE10 is being developed with possible Beta release this September?

There is also Windows 8 being developed that may also have a Beta release at the same time.
