The issue is some changes that were recently made pissed off some long time users. Said users retaliated and showed Sony exactly how they felt and their abilities to 'shut them down' as a message from the masses.
Gage is bummed as well...:P

Going through withdrawals since I haven't been able to play Black OPs for the last few days. I need to shoot someone in the face dammit!
The lack of communication by Sony is the biggest issue for me as I want to know if any personal info was hacked.

When Sony's PlayStation Network was taken offline ... all eyes fell on the Anonymous group, who've taken a dislike to Sony's ... treatment of hardware hacker George Hotz. ... Last night Sony confessed that an "external intrusion" caused [it] to take-down the PlayStation Network and ... Qriocity. ... However, they're not saying anything more, or giving a time scale as to when gamers will be able to resume playing online.
The phrasing Sony used ... indicates that this wasn't a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. ... Instead, this seems to be an individual breaking into the network ... probably why it's taking so long to clean-up. ... The break-in might even be coincidental to the recent Anonymous actions. ... However, the timing is certainly suspicious.
http://blogs.computerworld.com/18185/sony_playstation_network_statu s_psn_down_for_5th_day?ud
Sony didn't go into any additional details as to what that "external intrusion" might have been, but unverified reports suggest that a denial-of-service attack targeted the primary PlayStation Network server (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2384214,00.asp#). As well, additional denial-of-service attacks allegedly went after PlayStation Network servers (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2384214,00.asp#) that house user account information and, according to the report from PlayStation Universe (http://www.psu.com/PSN-hackers-attacked-Admin-Dev-accounts,-services-returning-in-a-day-or-two,-SCEE-source-claims--a011425-p0.php), administrator developer accounts were even breached at one point.
Initial suggestions pointed fingers at Anonymous–the hactivist group (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2384012,00.asp) that previously targeted Sony with alleged denial-of-service attacks. Pundits thought that Anonymous had re-upped its retribution campaign against Sony for the company's legal pursuit against alleged PS3 jailbreaker George Hotz.
According to a Saturday blog update from Seybold, Sony is taking this unexpected moment to rebuild its infrastructure even better than before–hence the continued delay.
"Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security," Seybold wrote (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/23/latest-update-for-psnqriocity-services/).
Sony officials have yet to issue an ETA for when the network might reappear. However, the source speaking to PlayStation Universe claims that Japanese servers should start reappearing on Monday, with U.S. and E.U. servers popping back up on Tuesday.

I'm looking at the new Battlefield 3, that ish looks bad as hell.
I just started playing online multi-player FPS games just before Black OPs came out. Never realized it would so much like crack and how much more fun the online play could be. Just need a better router so I can try to keep up with these 12 year olds kicking the crap out of me.
The best part is I can meet up w/buddies online, drink some beers, BS and never have to put on pants. :beatnik:

LMAO! Yeah FPS is intense, you can take out a lot of aggression on "people". Heck even my daughters play Black Ops, I just don't have the free time or we'd be blasting each other.

I don't play everyday myself but get on once or twice a week for a couple hours. That's about all the time I can find usually between work and all my ongoing projects.
I have friends who are on for hours everyday but I have a life, along with other hobbies that involve fresh air and live people.

Here is the latest information:
Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve the current outage of PlayStation Network & Qriocity services. We are currently working to send a similar message to the one below via email to all of our registered account holders regarding a compromise of personal information as a result of an illegal intrusion on our systems. These malicious actions have also had an impact on your ability to enjoy the services provided by PlayStation Network and Qriocity including online gaming and online access to music, movies, sports and TV shows. We have a clear path to have PlayStation Network and Qriocity systems back online, and expect to restore some services within a week.
We’re working day and night to ensure it is done as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience and feedback.
Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:
We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:
Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and
Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.
We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.
For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.
To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit reports. We are providing the following information for those who wish to consider it:
U.S. residents are entitled under U.S. law to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit bureaus. To order your free credit report, visit www.annualcreditreport.com (http://www.annualcreditreport.com/) or call toll-free (877) 322-8228.
We have also provided names and contact information for the three major U.S. credit bureaus below. At no charge, U.S. residents can have these credit bureaus place a “fraud alert” on your file that alerts creditors to take additional steps to verify your identity prior to granting credit in your name. This service can make it more difficult for someone to get credit in your name. Note, however, that because it tells creditors to follow certain procedures to protect you, it also may delay your ability to obtain credit while the agency verifies your identity. As soon as one credit bureau confirms your fraud alert, the others are notified to place fraud alerts on your file. Should you wish to place a fraud alert, or should you have any questions regarding your credit report, please contact any one of the agencies listed below.

You may wish to visit the web site of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission at www.consumer.gov/idtheft (http://www.consumer.gov/idtheft) or reach the FTC at 1-877-382-4357 or 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20580 for further information about how to protect yourself from identity theft. Your state Attorney General may also have advice on preventing identity theft, and you should report instances of known or suspected identity theft to law enforcement, your State Attorney General, and the FTC. For North Carolina residents, the Attorney General can be contacted at 9001 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-9001; telephone (877) 566-7226; or www.ncdoj.gov (http://www.ncdoj.gov/). We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. Please contact us at 1-800-345-7669 should you have any additional questions.
Sincerely,

Here's the latest ( linked - http://www.pcmag.com/ ) 411 from a reputable website that I frequent..
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2384369,00.asp
After 7 days of speculation-ridden downtime, Sony has finally announced that the PlayStation Network (PSN) outage was due to a massive hack (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/26/update-on-playstation-network-and-qriocity/) that exposed the names, birthdays, email addresses, passwords, security (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2384369,00.asp#) questions, and maybe credit card details, of all PSN users.

Keeps getting worse,...
http://ingame.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/05/02/6573427-sony-online-entertainment-hacked-some-credit-card-info-taken
Sony has announced that, in addition to the PlayStation Network breach, hackers have entered the company’s Sony Online Entertainment servers.
Intruders not only gained access to personal data from almost 25 million customer accounts — among them players of the long-running online PC game "EverQuest" — but have also likely stolen more than 23,000 credit card numbers and bank account numbers.
