I know 4:10 gears are about the limit for street use, 4:56 is too high..... most say. I know the axles are different, but I didn't know if they would effect the driveability or gas mileage in anyway. Most seem to go with 31s when they upgrade. The only cars I ever ready about that have 35s are track cars.
What is the reason for this? Should I just stick to 31s?

The splines have noting to do with driveability, gas mileage, etc.
You go with 31 spline axles because they can take more torque than 28 spline axles.
More splines = axles that will handle more torque.

So 35s would be best or at 31s the largest we can simply "slip in"? I am aware the diff will have to be changed.

31 spline is the choice for most street/strip cars
When you go higher than this 33 spline there are two manufactures that produce the posi for them and they are starting at 500.
As far as I know there are no posi for our cars with 35 spline axles it's usually a spool that is only available

Dom TRUST US when we say all you need is 31 spline!
