Did anyone try this? There's an article in the 50 Mustang and Fords magazine that they actually tested it and it works as advertised. I'm just curious if anyone got it, and what extra RWHP they saw.

Thanks.

I got one but haven't installed it yet. Most of the proponents of using it (on modularfords.com forums I believe) say that it helps a lot at low rpms. Not much difference in peak power which is at high rpms, but they claim it helps rev quicker because of the increases at the bottom. Also smoother idle. I reckon I'll find out soon. I was looking at how to install it today. The instructions are for connecting to Mustang wiring harness and the MM is obviously different. The same signals are there, just in different locations and different pin numbers.

I just read that FRPP will be offering a kit to install a distributor on the mod engines, as well as a 4bbl intake manifold.

FordNut--- when you get that thing installed, let us know how you like it. Also, did you buy it off the website or from a local dealer? About how much did it cost?

For production vehicles, no.

I found it on ebay. Got it for about $125. I felt ok about spending that much just to find out if it does anything, but didn't want to risk the suggested price of $250 or so.

This product is older than our MMs. Me thinks that if there was any real gain, or, benefit to us MM owners, that we would have heard some words on this product a while ago. We have not, and I will reserve further comment until we do.

Meanwhile, a member here is really "up to snuff" on all things MM related of this nature. I am hoping to read his comments on this offering soon.

So far it's not looking too good. Figured out the wiring differences and got it installed ok. Dyno test didn't show any gain. But it was a 3rd gear pull so I couldn't get good low rpm data. Next week I'll get a 2nd gear pull comparison so I can start at lower rpms. I'll update the thread again then.

OK, I've been looking at the dyno sheets and can say something more about this now. First, the 2nd gear pulls were useless. Apparently there was not enough loading by the dyno to get useful data.

But I looked at the 3rd gear dyno sheets closely and found that there is no horsepower difference in the peak, and no torque difference in that rpm range either. However, at lower rpms there was a significant increase in torque and horsepower. Since we did not have the ability to lock the torque converter, it was not possible to get data below about 3100 rpm and the data is not accurate until about 3200 rpm and maybe even higher. The plasma booster appears to add about 15 hp and 20 ft-lb of torque from 3300 to 4000 rpm. The difference then tapers off and by 4200 rpm there is no difference between the with/without plots. Needless to say, I will be verrifying this again when I get an opportunity to attend a dyno tune session where they can lock the torque converter and provide better low rpm data.

So, was it worthwhile? I say yes, but I got mine at half the list price.
Would it be worth it at list price? Maybe. I would rather wait until more testing is done before commenting.

Nice job! Thanks for looking into this and keeping us up to date.

Just a thought on dynos...Typically, a third gear pull gives us honest numbers on the overall performance, but if you're looking for that low end stuff, why no do a standing start pull? We can ignore the peaks at the shift points and the skewing of the sum, but a side by side "on/off" pull would show where the performance is, or is not. Just a thought...

Now I'm going to show my ignorance about dyno pulls, but here goes. When you do a dyno pull, don't you start at idle and then accellerate through the gears, getting readings all the way?

Mac with a loded type Dyno,Mustang I think, you could do an ALL GEAR RUN but with a Dyno-Jet first and second gear would run the drum up so fast you would be banging off the limiter on the upshifts, the CPU would be pulling fuel, ignition and who knows what out so the info would be almost useless.

I've talked with a local tuner/Dyno operator, what he does is burn a test chip that locks out the down shifts and allows him to start the pull at any RPM in 3rd gear. The truth is he likes to leave the factory tune in below 3000rpm anyway because the OEM's do a pretty good job with the drivability anyway. As we know theres power to be had above 3000.
