Yesterday was the Cannonball 440 time-speed-distance rally. I did one of these back in January and placed 3rd. It was a ton of fun so I was excited to do this again. Unfortunately, my navigator from the last rally was unavailable so I had to use a first-timer. I wasn't thrilled about this because I felt like my last navigator did a great job.

Anyway, we ended up winning the distance portion. (there is also an award for the best time. Rain kept a lot of people away, but we beat all of these cars plus a couple.

Last rally, I won the "Leadfoot" award for finishing the course almost 30 minutes faster than I was supposed to (and even beat the checkpoint operator to the finish line). This time, I drove more conservatively - other than 5+mph on most roads (which I don't consider breaking the law since 99% of cops won't even pull ya for it), I broke no laws!

With the amount of rain we had yesterday, I didn't feel like it would be safe to drive like a bastard.

The trip went from Cleveland's west side down to Akron to Cuyahoga falls to Boston Township to Montrose to Fairlawn, all on backroads...except for a brief stretch on the freeway during which we had to do THIS (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=I-76+W&daddr=I-76+W&hl=en&geocode=FY04cgIdieoh-w%3BFXY4cgIdsu8h-w&mra=dme&mrsp=0&sz=17&sll=41.040833,-81.662235&sspn=0.003771,0.010568&ie=UTF8&ll=41.03976,-81.6626&spn=0.003771,0.010568&t=h&z=17) 2 times in a row (see steps 86-92 below).

Wanna see the directions? Okay. Sorry for the quality, I'm using my cellphone...

One of the teams was an early '90s Subaru Outback with a fart can. They had a driver, navigator, and passenger. The passenger (back seat, obvs.) ended up barfing out the window all over the side of the car. Another team was in a red Escort ZX2. Their navigator ended up barfing and passing out. Other (non-puke) casualties:

-Ranger vs. rabbit, rabbit lost.
-Subaru lost its air filter, rear brakes, and possibly sustained a hole in its gas tank. It had a full tank at the start of the rally and had to fill up before it was over. I am guessing it just rusted through.
-Nissan Sentra SE-R burnt out both bright lights, and one regular beam, meaning it finished the rally with two fog lights and one headlight.

Annnnd the results are in:

Why does it say Magnum where Marauder should be :bop:

Any "during" pics taken out on the road? Sounds like it was fun.

Why does it say Magnum where Marauder should be? Three reasons:
1. It was raining all day and I don't take the Marauder out in that crap.
2. The Magnum has in-dash NAV which came in handy when we found a road washed out.
3. If I happened to blow something up or wreck, I'd rather do it to the car I don't care about!

Any "during" pics taken out on the road? Sounds like it was fun. Sorry, I was too busy "repeating step #__" to even think about taking any pictures. :banana2:

I'm currently planning a "Bandit Run" where everyone drives from eastern Cleveland into PA, buys beer (if they want), and returns for a BBQ. Of course there's gonna be checkpoints along the way like every TSD rally.

Should be fun, though I don't expect anyone here to show up since I always do things alone anyway these days!!!
