View Full Version : Frustrated with my MM!!

I've came to the conclusion that I have a serious electrical problem with my car. It went from overheating, to not starting, wiped problems..headlights and now parking lights! The no start was a hassle, had to end up getting a hot wire ran straight to the ignition wire to start. Changed wiped motor few months ago but now wipes come on at random and on work in the highest speed setting! Had some work done to my LCM because my parking lights won't come on. Put the LCM back in, parking lights came on, turned on the wipers and parking lights went off and won't come back on??! What could cause my car to have so many crazy issues?? I'm ready to give up and get a Challenger!!

Maybe check the "wire chaffing" issue?

For your park lights have you replace all 4 relays. For your wipers go over your motor install

No I have only replaced the relay for the headlights. The parking lights work when they want. And my wipers were fine last week. Started acting up the other day...??

That blows. Just be glad you don't have a car wired by the British. Lucas Electronics, the Prince of Darkness!

You have the chafing issue. You will find help here. Don't worry.

In all the time I have owned my car, @ 3 1/2 years, I have never even had a burned out bulb!

Buy if my wires were being chaffed or sliced wouldn't that cause fuses to blow?? All my fuses are good and when the parking lights cut off nothing blows. Like this morning I got in it and the parking lights came on. Drove a few blocks and they went out..didn't come back on..??

It won't necessarily pop a fuse. I have miswired electrical stuff at my houses before, sometimes it just pops the bulb, sometimes the fuse/breaker, sometimes both. And in the ase of a bathroom vent fan, nothing happened, it just wouldn't turn on until I figured out the wiring diagram.

That would be taking 3 steps backwards!

Check the wire harness in back of the motor behind the valve cover. Also check the wire harness that runs under the head lights all ofr chafing.

Would the LCM cause the wipers to work crazy also? Trying to narrow some things down. Cause my wipers were working fine days ago now they only work on the highest setting, motor is only few.months old. It's possible I might have two issues, chaffing and my LCM.

Look up "wacky wipers". Fairly easy fix!

It's the circuit board. The drain holes get clogged and submerges the board.

Did you clear out the drain in the shroud? If not, you just submerged the new wiper motor in water again. Don't worry too much, you won't need a new motor. Just spray the circut board on the wiper motor with WD-40. (aka: WATER DISPLACEMENT formula number 40) and clear out the drain. If you still have your original wiper motor, you could fix that first while its already off the car and swap it back in

I've looked at the threads and stuff for the drain...but where is it exactly? The threads talk about it - but really don't show it.
Is it clear-able from the top without taking anything apart?

Better off pulling the wiper cowl and motor box apart, and you'll want to drill a couple extra drain holes as well as long as you're at it.

What's the white wire for
I ain't callin' any of you guys to do my wiring...
in a 120v circuit black is hot, white is neutral, the bare is ground which is at the same potential as the neutral...
In a 240v circuit, black is hot(L1), red is hot(L2) white neutral and bare ground... L1 & L2 is your 240v connection, while either L1 or L2 to neutral gives 120v..

Who doesn't know beans about wiring a circuit. :D
Two things I won't mess with: electricity and plumbing.

I've discovered that its a separate relay that controls the parking lights. I had my LCM out and had the relay in my hand that controls the headlights and can feel it click when I turn them on. Now with the parking lights u can hear the click but its coming from another relay. But now have to figure out which one it is cause no one really specified which one it is in these posts about the LCM...
