Hey everyone. Traded in the marauder last night. Needed something with a lower monthly payment, better gas mileage, and a more reliable commuter car. I saw this and really liked it inside and out. I thought things might start going on the marauder seeing as how the paint was going, the a/c was gone, etc etc etc. and wouldn't you know it, on the way to sign the papers for the new car Tuesday night, the air compressor went for the suspension! I think that was her (the car's) way of telling me to let her go. So yesterday I took my dad's car to work because the marauder was too rough a ride for my commute and after work I drove to his house and limped the marauder to the dealership. I backed it in between two cars so they wouldn't notice the azz end of the car on the ground and took the plates off myself so that they wouldn't have to go out to the car at all and risk having them see it. It was a tough decision, but a decision that had to be made at this point in my life. I hope to one day own a SUPERCHARGED Marauder again. The spooky thing about the marauder is that the air suspension broke on the second day of owning that car AND the second to last day of owning that car! That is some weird wild shtuff! Anyways, the car I have now is really nice and will do well for me I am sure. This was an extremely tough decision that I thought about for quite some time now. Money is tough with the motorcycle payment and all, so I had to make the grown up decision. I just hope she goes to a good home and either becomes a restoration and/or drag car conversion. Yes, she was in that bad a shape. The New England winters have been rough on her to say the least. Well here is the last day owning the marauder with blown suspension and the new vehicle. Be gentle on me.

I definitely will one day meet you guys. I wanted to do the Pennsylvania trip, but my girl and I have been planning a Niagara Falls trip and we are thinking of doing it this year. I will hang around the site still.

Some marauder items will be up for sale. I will be selling my K&N CAI after I clean it up and recharge the two K&N Filters. I had two K&N filters so I could rotate them out between rechargings. I will most likely be selling the K&N as a full unit the way it came from K&N, plus an extra filter.

I tried, but just couldn't keep up with these past winters we have had. I drove mine! At least I can say that I had a lot of fun with her and got the most I could out of it. I enjoyed it and drove it everyday. Was never a garage queen or stored over the winter. I DROVE IT!

The only garage mine has seen is a parking garage. Mine is a dd also. Haven't had a tenth of the issues you've had..... I keep up with maintenance, fix things when of before they go bad, upgrade there is a alternative, etc.

Well there has to be a huge shock in driving the "little car" as opposed to the marauder. Good luck with that.

As far as your pick for a replacement well just wondering nothing from Ford caught your eye?

Hope you can make it to Pa. this year.

Enjoy your new ride.

Thanks for the positive words. I thought for sure I was going to get a super flaming. Like I said, it was a tough decision and I hope to own one again someday. I looked around at all different options and I really liked the Corolla I looked at. It was one of the first cars I looked at and I kept going back to it in my head. As for the smaller car, yes it is smaller, but I fit well in it and it actually fits my purposes a bit better. Plus the rear seats fold down if I ever need to grab lumber, etc. We will meet one day! haha. You sure you guys want to meet me??? I can be kind of a hand full! I think CBT and I would have a grand old time. May even see me do the walk of shame from his hotel room to mine one morning...

When gas is $4.39 a gallon for 93 its tough to justify keeping a MM. I have talked to my wife a couple times about going down to 2 cars and replacing our V8 cars with one that gets better mileage and is more practical. She won't have it. She doesn't pay the bills either. For now they will both be staying. Not sure about a year from now if gas doesn't come down. This is how we ended up with the Aveo in 08 and my MM became a toy instead of a DD. If the Aveo had air it would be going to the beach this year instead of the Marauder.

You have to do what you can to survive now a days.

A roof over your head, food on the table and clothing to wear are more important than a car.

Yes for little cars and work trucks. I think ABS is still an option for some makes too.

TJ, as much as I loved and hated you on the board I am sorry to see ya go. I don't think you can ever enjoy listening to Ricky Nelson in your new car, but maybe Ice Cube. If you are ever in my area you are always welcomed over.

You can buy a car without A/C?Yep my Aveo is basic transportation. No AC, $1200 option that up here gets used only occaisionally. Its also has a MTX and had a AM/FM radio only, I changed that right away. No ABS either, thanks Motorhead for reminding me. I prefer no ABS in the snow. With it you can not skid to a stop as you can without it. As far as payment, what payment? One of the reasons I was able to retire at 54 is I don't owe anyone anything significant. I do have to live within my means though. I can't just make extra money by working OT anymore.

$1,200 for A/C???

Holy sweaty balls BatMan!

Well, I don't blame you for not getting the A/C.

Besides an A/C compressor would take 3/4 of the Aveo's horsepower to spin it!

$1200 isn't a lot of money, but when you take the price of the car into consideration, it was more than 10% of the total cost. This buy was purely for economic reasons. It gets us from point A to point B. Its an absolute beast in snow. Not to mention you can park it just about anywhere. The wife used it to go to college this past winter instead of her LS8. Our fuel bill for those months was cut in half. Yep, and it can't get out of its own way.

I can relate to that... I had a POS '74 Vega sta wgn with auto trans, that didn't have enough power to pull itself from a stop with the A/C on(at least you'd better be sure there wasn't any traffic in the same block you wanted to pull out in)... Once up to 50mph, I could run the air but it felt like lost about half it's power... I kept that car all of six weeks before buying a 4cyl '76 Mustang II with a four speed, it felt like a rocket compared to the Vega...

Actually with A/C you save gas because you lessen the drag in the car with the windows up.

True, but I would think if you could tolerate just turning the vent on with windows up, that would be even better on gas than A/C because you wouldn't have the drag from the windows being down and you wouldn't be running the compressor.

A/c is an option for work trucks for two simple reasons. One your truck will cost less without it, two you want your workers out of the truck! Radio is an option too.

It's Michigan thing. Cool people until you mention that you have an Import. If their cars were exciting as they were in the past, maybe they would have more sales. Right now it's all about MPG, Hybrids and all that B.S. Back then cars looked better because MPG wasn't as important, neither was safety. Not too worried about what others think right now. I am worried about what is best for me at this point in time. Getting a new vehicle was what had to be done. Just needed a good COMMUTER car that was good on gas! My friends couldn't seem to grasp that I wasn't looking for power, but for a car to get me from A-> B and save me some gas along the way. Had to start thinking cost of ownership. The money I will save in gas and tires is worth the purchase right there!

Egon was going pretty good with this thread until he started trying to rationalize owning a Toyota over a Marauder...

That is NO rationalization could EVER be done.

I don't own an MM, but I've been certified car nut since the mid 1950's.

Going from my Galaxie, 2003 retro TBird, 04 Lincoln LS (even my 94 TBird) to a car like that and saying I'm happy, well, no way.

Now, if there's a real economical/financial reason, or the car being replaced has become a pure $$$ headache, that's something else.

But, a real car lover happy with a pure form of transportation?

Doubt it.

But, I wish him well.

I see a TON of embarrassed guys driving this car. Actually more than I do teenage girls.
My girlfriend acts like she really likes the car too.
Plus, if I wanted to go cruising for chicks, I would take a Prius.
I have never gotten so many "Get the F outta my way!" before.
Surprisingly, I don't miss the marauder at all....at least not while I'm sleeping.
My pockets are getting fatter from all the bananas that I stuff down there!

There fixed it for ya!
(Sorry....I couldn't resist)
