I thought The Macho Man was great! The epitome of what WWF/WWE was all about. Over the top in every sense of the word! I would bet his heart attack was caused by steroids; the cost of doing business in his chosen professional arena. Pun intended.

I use to watch wrestling when Andre the Giant man he had big hands / Bob Backland / Hulk Hogan / Chief J Strongbow / George the Animal Steel and so forth were on WWF.

I even met most of them @ Riverside park / now 6 Flags / when they would do a match @ the Springfield Colosseum.

Been a wrestling fan since I was old enough to remember and still am. I knew the brother of an ex WWE superstar real well and always got 2 free tickets when they came into town.

I agree with CheeseheadBob, he embodied what WWF/WWE was all about during his career with them.

Next time you watch WWE or any of the other ones, Look at the way it is shot. Meaning the camera angles. You never see someone getting kicked in the face from an angle that show the foot actually making contact with his face. Why do you think the ring has such a bounce to the floor. Watch a boxing match sometime and you will see the difference.
Vince McMann is a good business man. He inherited the show from his father V. M Sr There is a saying in wrestling " Red means Green" meaning blood is money the crowd
loves it. Is it real? You know it is not. It is entertainment, a show. Everything is scripted. Right down to the last few seconds.
If you want to see real fighting, watch Ultimate Fighting Matchs. They are for real.
I worked in Sports Television for more than five years. I have done Camera, Slo Mo, and Switched the shows. I know the way we shot wrestling and Roller derby, It's all in the way it is shot.
Baseball, Football, Boxing, Basketball, Hockey are all shot differently. Do you ever hear the sports broadcast stations report on the outcome of these so callled Matchs
McMann had to change the name from World Wrestling Federation because of growth hormons, and that he was trying to call it sports.
You should see his production fisilities in Bristal CT. It is State of the Art. Wrestling is big business
Wjen I was a kid I thought it was real also. Brouno SanMartino was top billing then, Andra the Gaint was another proformer. Can you imagine having a 400 pound man land on your chest????
I am sorry the man died also so but you could see the Roaid Radge in his eyes. Too bad I hope his wife will be Okay.

I have worked around these guys. Most are great guys. Some are not.
I wouldn't go in the ring with any of them. I am not trained in that sort of phyical
activity. I know of several schools in NY that teach you this art form. And yes if you
don't know what you are doing, you will get hurt. It's all about training. Just like the
Marine Corps. I served two tours in Viet Nam. Not fun.
I did not post to insult you or anyone else, No offence intended.

I don't think any of us were looking at this as real fighting, we know it's fake and it's entertainment. BTW though, the WWF had to actually change their name because of a longtime battle with a humane society of the same name. This dispute went back throughout the nineties and gained more foothold as the WWF got racier. Once the internet came about, the group sued McMahon for the rights to the name, and they were forced to change to WWE
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWE

Regarding Ultimate Fighting, I know lots of people like it, but I just don't get it. To me it is extremely boring. The stand up and fight for about 15 seconds, then they get down on the ground and roll around trying to get submission moves, occassionally throwing a punch.

To me it would be much more entertaining if everytime they got down on the ground, the ref made them stand back up and start over.

I always enjoyed Boxing more, unfortauntely there is no real decent heavyweights out there, and the few names they do have can only fight once maybe twice a year. Pay Per View ruined boxing because it began to greatly limit those who could watch it. I'm certainly not going to pay $60 to see a fight. But back when it used to be on the Wide World of Sports and Friday Night Fights, saw some great matches

If the Pro Boxing adopted Olympic rules I would be a huge fan of Pro. I grew up watching Ali.

Spinx walked past me in a hotel Lobby and the Bellman said do you know who just walked by you? I said no. He said the Heavy Weight Champ of the World.

Had it been Ali the Bellman would not have bothered to ask the question.

Needless to say Pro Boxing lost me a long time ago.

PS He had "Mister T" in tow as his body guard. The Heavy Weight Champ needs an unarmed body guard?

E-Dubb is big into UFC, I started following it about a year ago, agree that it can appear boring until you start learning some of the ins and outs along with some of the fighters; then it can get pretty interesting.

As for "wrassling" being fake, no doubt it's highly coreographed and mostly staged, but it's still very physical, and as Jesse "The Body" noted in his autobiography, you need to be able to work through pain, the participants still take a lot of pounding.
