I took my window switches apart today to clean the contacts since it's been hard to get my driver window up. Well to my surprise the contact is completely gone. The others are all perfectly clean and the up contact is charred black and is so worn that its actually past the plastic where the others are raised. Is there anything I can do to salvage this?

Probably not. A new switch isn't that expensive or you can always try a salvage yard although you may run into the same or another problem with the switch.

The whole housing? That's what would need to be replaced? I'm thinking if I fill it with solder would that create enough metal to complete the connection?

The switches on the drivers side are an entire unit, so yes you'd have to buy / replace them all.

Not unreasonably priced but i'm expecting rain and my window wont go up... I guess trying to fill it with solder to get it up until I receive the new one i just ordered woudn't hurt anything... Thanks Jim

Solder has far too low melting point to be used as a contact replacement, it won't last and you run the risk of the contact soldering it's self together and burning up the window motor...

Yeah I did notice when I did the LED window switch repair writeup that my drivers side window contact was burned down much lower than the others. Not near as bad as yours, but definetly more.

Well nothing 50 bucks can't fix... :(

When I cleaned mine, I lost a piece for the window lockout switch. I hate that feature anyway, so I just soldered across to complete the connection and it's been working fine for over a year now.

I got tired of messing with the switch on Phoebe and just replaced it. $43.85 for a gen-u-wine Motorcraft part from tascaparts.com

Thanks for the info, it's cheaper than any of the others I found. Might as well save a few bucks

I'd replace with a new assembly, but you can swap the drivers contacts with one of the rear window contacts, since they are not used as much. I did this as a temporary measure until the switch assembly was replaced.

I bought a whole new one myself.

Something is up with the front passenger side window now, it will go half way down with the switch then have to use the main driver's switch to get it the rest of the way down and back up. I guess I'll be pulling the door apart sometime this week and see whats going on.
