View Full Version : Compass not working?

I was fortunate to have a MM.net member send me his broken compass.

The "510" resistor was missing one of the solder pads. I ordered another resistor. The smallest quantity I could get was 50

So here's the deal..............

Send me a SAE and $1.00 and I'll send you a "511" resistor (it will work in place of the "510").

For those of you that don't want to fool around with a soldering iron - or don't know how to - send me your compass and I'll repair it for $2.00 plus shipping.

You ask why the difference in price? I test the compass before I return it.

Any questions?

After the dealer put my roof back on, I noticed the compass was not working, not really sure if it's a related issue but I really do not feel like going back to that place to ***** about it. It just does not turn on anymore, no display. This is what you fix? Where is the compass?

You are going to have a problem with those 511 resistors as they are 510 ohms, not 51 like the 510...

The compass is located in the overhead console.

2003 Marauders just send the compass assembly, not the entire overhead console.

2004 Marauders either send the entire overhead console or just the compass assembly.

I repair it as soon as I get it and get it back to the post office the same day.

Maybe so but you now have 10x the resistance in the circuit as originally... Something like a 68 ohm(680) would have been fine...

On the plus side if it works OK under all conditions(like very cold), the less current in the circuit will likely prevent overheating and the resistor coming loose again...

Long or short overhead console?

Long or short overhead console?

I've got a short 2004 with a sunroof. How's it done. Is it the same as changing the map lights, (pulling on corner while holding roof?). Thanks

Ps. Does anyone have a middle #2 garage door opener button, (homelink system-second button is missing from PO).

There might be one screw at the front of the console near the windshield.
Take that screw out, if there is one, and pull down on the sides of the console to unclip it from the roof
Disconnect the wiring
I think there is 3 or 4 silver screws - might be Torx heads - that secure the compass, remove them and send me the compass part.

I have the long console.

I have the long console.

Same removal as the short console just remove two extra screws to the rear in the sun glass holder cubby.
