I have a 63 Unibody F-100 (I am making it an M-100 with a Marauder theme) sitting on a 2003 Marauder chassis. I have all of the stock brakes on the truck, but we cannot get a firm pedal. As soon as the motor is turned on the brake pedal goes to the floor. I have noted that other owners have had this issue on brake bleeding and clearly-you need a scanning tool to make sure the system is bled properly. The system has been bled with a scanning tool in the right sequence by a good mechanic and the pump does come on and it pumps fluid out of each respective caliper. But I still have no pedal once the engine comes on. My Mechanic thinks the ABS unit is faulty.

I have two questions.

Question No 1. Is there a way to tell if the ABS unit is Faulty?

Quesiton 2 How do I tell if this car came with Traction Control? I know there is a button on the dash but the car is long gone. When looking for new and used ABS units they list two different units and part numbers--one with and one w/o traction control. Are there easy ways to identify if I have TC or not have it? I have installed all of the original wiring harness but I have not plugged in every last connector into every last switch.

My mechanic thinks the pump or module is bad but yet it does run with the scanner.

Maybe air in the lines. It's really hard to get the air out of the ABS system lines without the power bleeder they use at the dealership.

We used a power bleed (presurized the master cylinder) and the process using a $4,000 scanning tool which all appear to have been completed properly.

Keep bleeding it using that tool and proper procedure, you're going to have to run around 4 - 5 standard sized bottles of brake fluid through to get a firm pedal if you let the ABS HCU get any air into it.

Thanks for the response. Doesn't that seem like an insame amount of fluid? Sounds like you have done this before.

So you think it's not a malfunctioning ABS? Question--will the brakes work at all if the ABS pump does not?

thanks

IF you still have air in the line the pedal will fade, however once the air is bled out and the ABS module does not work the brakes will work like a car without ABS.

Have you confirmed its not a bad master cylinder? Do you see air bubbles in it when you are pumping the brakes?
