I would say energy and velocity matter a lot more than size in the case of this video. Still pretty cool.

True, that.

After watching the video, I decided if I was gonna take a bullet, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want it to be either a .338 or a 50 cal.

At shorter range there isnt much a 12 guage slug cant stop. We used to train with them; they will go in one side of a car and out the other.

The muzzle velocity of the AK47 7.62 x 54R and the .50 cal Barrett are nearly identical. The AK47 is 2700 fps and the Barrett is 2750 fps.

However the energy of the 7.62 at 200 yards is 1602. The .50 cal is 7 times higher at 11,070 at the same 200 yard distance. The difference is primarily based on Mass. Yes, size matters. So does weight.

I probably could have said what I was meaning to say better. Mass and velocity matter more than size, which I take as actual bullet diameter. Case in point: I hunt whitetail deer with two rifles. One is a Marlin 1894 in .44mag and the other is a .50 inline muzzleloader. The .44 fires a 300gr projectile around 1300fps from a 20" barrel. The .50 fires a 305gr projectile of similar construction at 1400fps from a barrel of the same length. There is absolutely no way to tell which one has greater lethality even though the .50" projectile is noticeably "bigger" in your hand.

I'm banking on a .45 with Black Talons getting someone to lay down and stay down when and if the situation arises. I do not predict a home invader complaining about the slug being big and slow. :D

Charlie the AK47 uses a 7.62 x 39 not the 7.62 x 54R.

Years back, BillyGMan and I went to Knob Creek shooting range to try out a few weapons for our own Ballistic "testing".

Bought a junk car and sat it down range around 125 - 150 yds.

Our targets included car batteries, manhole cover, dumbell from a weight set and the car itself.

I have fired many weapons thru the years, but nothing compares to the 50 Cal. that I/we fired that day.

LOL

Yeah, good times were had by all!

:D

When we got back to my place, and after unloading all the gear onto the driveway, my neighbor walked over after seeing all the rifle cases and ammo boxes.

"What the hell's in THAT case?"

I opened up the case, raised up the 50 Cal. making sure the weapon was clear.

After handing it to Larry, he throws it up on his shoulder aiming high in the trees up the street.

A couple other neighbors saw him doing so and were like... WTF???

Nothing was said, but would have been funny as Larry happens to be a Law Enforcement Officer.

:D

I'd do that in a New York minute! :gunfire:

Can you get that .50 cal for next year's meeting, Mike?

I'm afraid not Rex.

:(

I have thought about Knob Creek shooting range during the Louisville Meet, and always negate it for many reasons.

Of course, that shouldn't stop anyone wanting to go and breaking away from the group.

If a person wishes to bring their firearms for that purpose, consideration must be given in crossing state lines with firearms, and knowing the laws of those states.

Probably for the best, that's all we need is Rex running around the hotel loaded on Blue Moons, Black Death, Buffalo Trace, and Makers Mark totin' a .50 cal, lol. He'd lose at L-C-R and take out half the Marauder owners in a 20 state area.
