Hi,

I have a 2005 stock GM GS and I want to upgrade the shocks and probably the springs to eliminate the highway float and "inspire confidence".

My car has a stock front sway bar, but not rear.

I have gathered that I can use the Marauder springs and shocks up front. However, I have stock springs in the back and I'm not sure if just hd shocks and an swaybar will be enough.

Thanks

Just replacing the shocks will fix your float. I have worked on a lot of town car with the same feeling and the shocks repaired the ride. For the rear end it is up to you. A swaybar will help with body roll.

Springs and stabilizer bars will help, too.

What is a 2005 GM GS?

Model Year: 2005

Vehicle: Grand Marquis

Trim Level: GS

BTW, agree on the shocks, go with Monroe Severe Service, also a rear sway bar will cut down on body roll.

PM 03mmmonroe to see if he still has m old OEM sway bar, and if he doese, see if he's willing to sell it.

Why not just buy the kind of car you want it to float like.

SC Cheesehead,

Are you saying use Monroe severe service on all 4 corners or just in the back and Marauder oems in the front?

Thanks

CBT,

I didn't buy a Maruader or CVLX Sport because they; A) have a center console-I need to seat 6, B) Have worse gas mileage, C) Marauder takes premium, D) Are more expensive, and E) I got a deal on this car.

I am just trying to adjust the current "grandfather" suspension characteristics.

I've got Monroe Severe Service on all four corners, and upgraded to a HD rear sway bar; car handles very well now.

Ride is very firm, but not harsh; no rolling in corners.

All GM will "float" that is how are set up from the factory listen to member in post #2 and will not be sorry. Trust me I know first hand:)

Thanks SC Cheesehead. I am wondering if I should use the Marauder springs up front or switch over to Crown Vic P71 Interceptor springs instead. I've read they are similar in rates.

I noticed you're in Greenville. I went to Clemson, but am locked in Boston now.

Ah, you know the area, then! Clemson's a good school, we've got a lot of their grads working here at Fluor.

Suggest you PM gdmjoe, he's an expert on all things CV, 03mmmonroe may want to chime in on the subject as well.

I installed KYB shocks on all fours and I don't feel much of a difference on my 99 GM. They helped with body roll a little and helped with the float just a tad. If I'm fully loaded with people, my x pipe will scrape only when I float. . Wish I had known about the Monroe shocks recommended here. My next step was to go with new springs.
