This is my future laptop: Compaq Presario Notebook PC with IntelŪ PentiumŪ Processor 2.8GHz (http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&oid=80559&catoid=-8026&department=Computers,+Printers ,+and+PDAs&category=Notebook+Computers) .

I've checked around everywhere I could and no other offer comes close for the value.

Can anyone beat it?

Can anyone explain to me why this POS is so cheap?

Thanks guys, hopefully I'll get it in time for school.

Jersey.....

I have had a couple of Compaqs and they are OK but I have an Averatec now and it is astonishing!! It comes with a wireless LAN which allows me to wander all over the house and stay connected to the net without wires!!!

I actually don't need a PC with this laptop.....Check it out!! After rebates it was $950.00!!! :D

Jersey,

It looks like a pretty good machine. In checking out the product specs I didn't see either an ethernet card or wireless (802.11?) built in. You may want to work this site for a better manufacturer/better machine.

Mac shmack! You mean you can actually surf the web with one of those things? J/K!

The only thing I know that the Mac's are good for is graphic arts, and music production (recording, mixing, etc.)

You wont see one in many typical office environments! They took them all out of the schools! There will be very few in the next generation that will know anything about Macs!

This is just my opinion mind you.

I know Compaq and HP are one company now, but I've always preferred the HP label with computers and printers. The customer support is the best in the industry, and the bottom line is, if you don't like it, they'll take it back.

If you'll consider a HO notebook, a better deal may be found at www.TigerDirect.com No harm in shopping, eh?

The IBM T40 is one of the best laptops on the market. It runs 7.5 hours on one battery. It has built in wireless, a track pad and a pointing stick, and one the best keyboard in a laptop bar none.

Oh really? Check these: http://www.apple.com/business/ and

There will be very few in the next generation that will know anything about Macs!

Would that include IT students at Virginia Tech, where they've built the world's third fastest supercomputer with Macs? http://www.apple.com/education/science/profiles/vatech/

But hey, I'm not here to convert anyone! In fact, not unlike being an MM owner, I like the exclusivity of using a Mac (first one in 1987). Unlike PC's, they are built and sold on quality and performance, not price.

No, I like things the way they are. The satisfaction that comes from ease of use, reliability, and virtual immunity from viruses is enough for me. Let's just call it our 'little secret' ;)

I wouldn't touch a Compaq with a 10' Pole, or a 9' Chezk...

They seem expensive, but what you get for your money, they are a good value.

Oh, and MLM

Alienware vs. Mac (http://www.alienware.com/review_pages/review_template.aspx?FileName= review_macworld_1203.asp)

I know for graphics rendering and such, nothing beats a mac, but... No one makes games for Mac's

Compaq's suck balls... If you want a computer that's gunna lock up half the time whit baisic rendering problems, then go for it. HP now owns Compaq, so maybe for the better?

Ibuypower! I've had mine for over a year and I love it. DVD, CD-RW, 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of Ram, Blue neon light, left side has a window, ZIP drive, network card, 5.1 audiogly card, 6 or 8 USB ports, and that other port for other cameras. 64MB video card, 80GB hard drive.

It was somewheres around the $1500-$1700 range. They're cheaper now too!

You mean you can do something with a computer besides play on the internet?

didn't see an ethernet connection (wired lan). it does have an integrated wifi. not that it matters, with xp home instead of professional you can't but it on a network anyway...wouldn't waste my money on it...my opinion....

hey thanks guys, I ordered the Compaq from HPshopping, got a better deal than that red dot price at CircuitCity.com

Should arrive shortly.

I got the 802.11b wireless card build in so I can use it in school.

Besides going on AOL/AIM I will hardly use it for much more, or so I think right about now. I also got a two year warranty, so hopefully it'll work ok.

well, we'll see. thanks for the input!
