View Full Version : Drive your cars!!!

Right now I have something on my mind I think needs to be said again. DRIVE YOUR CARS PEOPLE! These past few months in my pathetic life I have discovered too many people saving "fun" for the end of their lives. I have come across three people this year alone that have decided to enjoy their toys as a retirement present to themselves only to have something bad happen upon which they cannot enjoy them. Thus wasting all their good years being concerned about how much money they will have saved up and working sooooo much they are too tired for anything else on the weekends.

What I am saying is enjoy your car now! Forget about tomorrow. There is no reason why your Marauder cannot be a daily driver. You can enjoy this thing all day, everyday and all weather... believe me I have done it and with 550 horsepower in the snow may I add! It's possible, anything is possible as long as you stay committed, don't let the dollar get in the way of your happiness. I have seen it too many times even at my age of 25.

I don't know what's with hot rod culture, but maybe I am just discovering how much of a hobby it is to some as opposed to a lifestyle. I may lack skills to rebuild an engine or even fix something without asking how to do it first, but darn it I enjoy it. A very small amount of people I know with fast cars/fun cars use them often. The cars will usually sit unless it's sunny or the weekend. Screw that, our cars have windshield wipers and heaters for a reason, to be used! Everytime I see a car with low miles regardless of what it is, it's a waste. A car is built to be driven. Too many are seeing these cars as investments and worry about the value going down or wonder when it will go up. WHO CARES? Drive it and enjoy it. Drive it till the wheels fall off, then go to Pep Boys, get the replacement studs, knock it back together and drive it some more.

Not everyone can have a car as fun as ours. More and more I realize how old school and lucky we are to have these cars. Everything from cheap junkyard parts, cable throttles and the ability to completely turn off the traction control. Sounds silly, but I was just reading Hot Rod and someone was complaining how they cannot fully turn off the traction control on their 550 horsepower Camaro.... what a sad day in the automobile industry. Cars are getting safer and now drivers are getting dumber. Before you know it, we'll have automated navigation and have as little style as a car from The Jetsons. Cars keep getting uglier, safer and less fun. How can you enjoy a 550hp car with traction control??? How??? it would be like buying your woman breast implants and not being able to take her bra off.

So those of you complaining about gas prices, the condition of your car, THE WEATHER. Get outta bed and smell the rubber on the street. You could be driving along one day and get hit by a semi truck... LIKE ME! I'm sure glad it was in a car I love, plus it kept me safe. What other car can you run 12s in (with mods, dua) drive everyday, have A/C, leather seating, factory five star safety, cheap junkyard parts and actually look good doing it? Tell me one car that can do it for the same resale value? None that I can think of. Maybe a F-Body, but even then, no air ride, fiberglass parts, lower... exc.

Live for today, you might be dead later today. Drive your car.

Let this be advice not only for your personal enjoyment of your Marauder, but your life. Don't think about anything, just do it. You can get anything you want in this world if you stay on it.

I've had my fun when I was younger, trust me I had enough fun for the both of us. Now I am enjoying my 2.5 ton paper weight, can not even enjoy looking at it since it is under the cover and on the lift most of the time.

Its not a matter of driving our cars, its a matter of choices we make. For most of my life Ive only owned one car. Now I have a couple of cars and prefer to use my MM on weekends. I get plenty of enjoyment out of that. I understand your comments but remember, each to their own. :)

Put 260K miles on your MM, then come talk to me.
The DD life here in the northeast is BRUTAL on cars.
That's why people only drive on sunny days.
Why spend money on a nice ride, only to see it rot away, when you don't have to?
IDK if you have any other vehicles to drive, but I bet if you did and had a garage you wouldn't DD your MM.
Seems like you are DD'ing it out of necessity rather than by choice.
I could be totally way off, though.

BTW I thing your enthusiasm is great, I read the whole thing....lol

I don't live in the rust belt, and I could DD the Marauder all the time. I don't though.

In heavy rains, I drive the truck. When I go the baseball games where I need to drive a half mile down a dirt/rock road, I don't drive the MM.

Why, simple, I can keep it nice if I dont drive in those situations. If an accident occurs, they hit my truck which is easily replaceable. My Marauder is not easily replaceable, probably why I like it so much! :banana2:

Simple math, the 2004 GMC Sierra Crew Z71 is 1 of 500,000 (have no clue ... but it is a lot).

The Marauder, 1 of 11052, and the fact that it is blue, 1 of 328. Specifically I am number 232.

I know that it can be driven but I choose not too. I also understand your statements. I have put 11K on her in 8 months. She is driven!

I prefer to perserve my car so I can enjoy it for many more years then I would be able to if I was to drive it everyday. More mileage means more parts with the potential to break and make the car a money pit to keep it going.
I see where you're coming from, but I'd rather keep the car in the garage and take it out because I want to drive it, not cause I have to.

Dom,
I really don't feel like beating the snot out of my Marauder just so I can proudly proclaim, like you constantly do, that it is a "Daily Driver!!".

Whoop dee friggin' do!

I've got a little Ford Ranger for DD duty, as well as other 'fun' cars to drive when I choose.
My choice is not based on any perceived 'future value', as I never intend to sell my Marauder.
Meanwhile, I will continue to keep my Marauder low miles, garage kept, driven only on beautiful weekends and looking like new!

Should I start a thread and admonish everyone who is "wasting their Marauder" as a daily driver?

To some, a car is simply the vehicle used to get from point A to Point B. To me, my Marauder is the point!

My MM is a daily driver and will be for many years to come. Meanwhile I enjoy every second. Had a couple of young guys (probably early 20's) cruise by my car last night after soccer when I was filling up. "I like your car man"

"thanks"

That's all I need! :)

Yeah, do that ^^^^^. ;) My daily commute would be miserable if I wasn't in my Marauder. I'm having fun wasting the ***** out of it .... at a fairly low mieage rate anyhow. :o

I've been toying around with the idea of getting a Fusion, Taurus, or maybe even a BMW as a beater. Just ain't ready to give up the MM yet.

....... still so far, so good.

Dom, I would just add that for some people the enjoyment of the car is NOT driving it everyday. "Drive your cars" does not necessarily translate to "you'll be happier"

I drive my Marauder everyday, but my Mustang only gets driven every once in awhile, and thats the way I enjoy it. It makes even more special to be driving it on the days I take it out.

Suggest you retitle your thread to "Enjoy your Cars" This is different for everyone

I'd prefer it if people didn't drive their Marauders more, just means I'll have better pickin's when I can afford to get another one. :O

That, and once the miles start racking up, they do lose value, so people that otherwise wouldn't take care of a car will actually be able to pick them up and turn them into ****-buckets. It happens to just about every desirable car that ever loses value...

I forgive you son, you will learn someday.

Never gonna change my ways. If driving your car (even the Mustang) is a special time, then why not make every drive special? I get bored to death when I ride in my best friends Oldsmobile Cutless Supreme because it's a boring car. Everytime I drive my Marauder it's a good time. Maybe I enjoy driving more then most people... even on this board.

Driving the car will make you happier. I guess if you have boost. Knowing you can pretty much kill anything that's on the road, maybe that's why I like it more than most everyone in the club... or at least I am getting that impression.

Right now it's the only car left that works. Even when I had my truck rolling, I drive my K5 and Marauder depending on what's up for the day. If a long haul I'd take the Marauder, if I needed to tow something or going out for the night with a ton of friends I'd take the truck.

Different reasons to take different vehicles, but it wasn't based upon weather or the time or year, just whatever the days/nights activities were.

I don't want another car. I'd love to have my K5 back on the road and off the road, but given the choice if I had enough money to buy another car... I would probably buy a purple SRT8 Challenger with white interior for my girlfriend. So in the end the "new" car wouldn't be for me.

I'm driving my dream car. Everything else I would want cannot be daily driven due to age. Such as a 59 Caddy convertible or 49 Mercury led sled.

each to their own. :)

I agree when it comes to modifications, not ownership.

Problem with your logic Dom is IF we drove the snot out 'em like you do starting from day one what would be left? I doubt there be a National meet as the cars would be beat to death and owners would not be willing to drive across half the Country to meet up with other?

Works for me. Who cares what's left? How many cars can you drive at once?

It just seems to me too many people don't live 100%. Is the Marauder part of living? Well I say it is. Why would you leave the toys at home when you can take them everywhere? Before you know it you'll have a midlife crisis, buy a Corvette and get a teenage girlfriend. While young girls never age, our time in this world is limited until proven otherwise. You can believe what you're told, but your eyes never lie.

Does gas cost too much? Skip lunch or eat at home, drink water instead of beer... whatever it takes. Maybe enjoying the car isn't as important to some as I thought. Not to put anyone down here, but it just seems like quite a few are treating this car like a frickin' show car. If it's two things I will never win it's Best Of Show and Fastest Marauder. Either one of those categories belongs to cars that don't even come close to the average of 12,000 miles a year. No pun intended for DOOM, he drives and sends me some crazy texts that would be looked down upon on this board. :burnout:

Finally, I gotta say this: The coolest car I have even seen was a 1987 Buick Gran National in a AAMCO a few years ago. It was rusted through, but it had good tags and was in for repairs. You know why? Because he drove it, didn't matter how rare it was. Drive it, enjoy it, fix it, repeat it.

It's a nice day today. I think I'm going to blast The Beach Boys as I windex my engine compartment.

I laid out every penny thats gone into my car out of my own pocket. That is why I choose not to take it out and risk everything I invested just so I could drive it 15 minutes back and forth to work or to the store just so some moron who can care less about my car slams their door into it or use my bumpers are their way of knowing when to stop. No thanks. I enjoy seeing my car as is without battle damage.

Plus, I enjoy it more after a long week of grinding it out to take it for a ride.

I can totally relate and I hate that. A few months back I caught a guy who opened his door on mine. I took his money right on the spot.

I don't mind the bumper guards getting scratched or chipped... kinda like a Road Warrior car, but denting the solid body I can't stand.

Look at it this way, Dom: I really enjoy cake. REALLY enjoy. But if I ate it every day, I'd be fat...(shut up, Rex...you too, Gordon). Same idea with The Blackbird. Just because I really enjoy driving it, there are consequences to doing so that I want to minimize...like the ones Paul described so well right above ^^^. I don't want to see my pride and joy rot away in the back yard, but I also don't want some arrogant POS Escalade driver to bang his gargantuan doors into it in the supermarket parking lot...or some non-English speaking truck driver to back into it and cave in the right rear quarter panel...(get the idea?)

This is an excellent analogy. Eating cake everyday for some people is great, and perhaps they don't mind blowing up like Free Willy. For other people that don't eat cake, when they do have it, they appreciate it even more. That may be why your car is in the shape that it is Dom, yes you drive it everyday, but, and you'll never admit this, you also lost some of the appreciation for it. Sure you still love it, but when a truck backs into you, and you have to put taxi bumpers on, it doesn't have an effect on you. For some of us, that would destroy the experience of the car.

I love driving the Mustang, but I also know how sick I got on the last Mustang when someone dinged the door right on the crease. It was all that I saw after that, and it drove me nuts.

So I will not subject my new Mustang to the terrible downtown Atlanta streets, crowded parking lots where I can't park in a way to protect her. I take her out for cruises, will do long drives with her, drive her to my office, and for me that is a special time that makes the car really special to me.

Your ways have obviously made you happy and continue to do so, but to tell people that they aren't enjoying their cars cause they don't pound on them like you do is not on target. I think everyone her appreciates their Marauder and is happy with it, they choose to celebrate it different than you do.

it all comes down to "its my car i can do whatever i want to do with it"

but when a truck backs into you, and you have to put taxi bumpers on, it doesn't have an effect on you. For some of us, that would destroy the experience of the car.

I don't care. They are Ford OEM parts. The very fact that is might have been a "Taxi" is what maybe a downer to you or anyone else. If I said "Used Marauder Parts" I guess that would be different, when in reality is isn't. No one can tell it's been hit and I like pointing out it has parts off of taxi cabs. That's right, plural. The wiper plastic thing by the wipers is off of a cab. I kept the orange paint on there to point it out at shows. I have really cheap thrills... really cheap. Wither it's getting a $10 remote control truck and chasing the cats or going on a $5 shopping spree at a used record store. 45s are 25 cents a piece! Plus I was doing my best to be nice to the truck driver. I told him using junkyard parts was fine with me as long as it looked good. I didn't want crappy aftermarket paper thin reproduction parts. Panthers are all over the yards. I love this city! It's full of cabs and police cars in the yards, makes maintaining this thing with OEM parts cheap and simple. It's almost too easy.

at what point did he say pound ya car?.... he said drive it

Never.

"Enjoying" his car every day means pounding on it. He's said so much MANY times in the past.

I never said pound when referring to how to enjoy the car. You should work for the media. Take words people say, say they said it and imply it in the wrong spot to mean something else. Did I say it? Probably. Did I say "Pound on the car"? No.

Ok guys. Preserve your cars so I can buy another and POUND on the throttle when I decide I want another.

As for cake and junkfood I eat it all the time.... ALL THE TIME. I started doing sit ups and lifting. My gut is almost gone and I am still enjoying kit kats and vanilla coke whenever I please. It's all about how you take care of your self. If you just eat cake all the time and sit around, you fail. Eating cake and still doing something about it to keep the pounds off, win! I had milk and cookies last night at 2am. Going to the gym later and still don't have dick-do!

True dat, BigDog...when I was 30, if I had any idea I'd be this messed up at 54 I would have offed myself back then.

Your only 54, damn I thought you were at least 65 and FAT does not start to describe you. (Chicken legs)

Problem with your logic Dom is IF we drove the snot out 'em like you do starting from day one what would be left? I doubt there be a National meet as the cars would be beat to death and owners would not be willing to drive across half the Country to meet up with other?

Good Point, Jim

We've been enjoying all the get togethers and Maraudervilles that have been organized over the years--would be a sad day if/when there are no more.....:(

We drive ours enough to enjoy it, but not too much that it'll wear out and we can't drive it anymore!!!:)

Joe, if daily driving a Marauder is a waste I don't know what in the world "good use" is. Sounds like no use is good use. :shake:

I forgive you son, you will learn someday.

I don't drink either. Maybe my mom grew up too close to the bible belt, but we never had alcohol in the house. Out of respect for my mother, I chose to not drink. My sister hardly drinks either. Save a lot of money on the beer budget, lol.

I simply never had a desire. I always kinda saw it as growing up, usually its from peer pressure. Later I found out how bad substance abuse in the family was, so I figured its best not to start. Plus the people that I have know of to finally get sober don't enjoy it. Once you are hooked, you can't break free. Even if you do, you never lose the desire to go back. Not that I would know. I don't wanna know.

I enjoy driving mine and keeping it nice. Especially as a DD. The problem now is with the weather so fick'en hot it feels slower.

Thats another good thing about year round driving, when it inhales that 30 degree air, well, lets say you better hang on.

Decided to go to the Mission Raceways track Friday (Canada Day) with Taemian and had both SB's on the track once that day. Ran 3 times and FINALLY got into the 11's. Sleeping at the wheel at the light, still have some rear wheel spin I have to learn how to control but it was a good night.

This is a funny thread. Not sure where I fall in on this one... I have 191,000 miles on my MGM, about 70,000 miles since I modded it. Since having the engine built in January I have put around 10,000 miles on my car. To say I enjoy driving it as much as I can would be an understatement. But that is just me, ummv, pun intended :P

Are you one of those pro life, homophobe, church going, beer drinking, anti-import product, conservative voting, NRA member people who always thinks they are right?

Where in the **** did you even get that from?

I never said pound when referring to how to enjoy the car. You should work for the media. Take words people say, say they said it and imply it in the wrong spot to mean something else. Did I say it? Probably. Did I say "Pound on the car"? No.

And what does this even mean? "I may have said it, but I didn't say it."

There is no possible way to twist your words, as you double-talk everything you say.

I drive mine almost everyday and marvel at how many looks and comments it gets. My wife is drving it to the UP on 7/21. I'm following with our sons in our Explorer and 6 ATV's on our trailer. Not excited about the miles about to be put on the Marauder, but hey, it was meant to be driven. And I take care of my stuff........so it will last for hundreds of thousands of miles.:)

Never started. Some say I am Straight Edge.... google that. I just say I am sober. Hehe

I don't know why you think you invented sXe?
Just like most straightedge people, you view yourself as superior to others who aren't straightedge. Funny thing is, you're just as f-ed up as those who do drink/drug, without the drugs.

Wrong, but I used to think that. I will give you credit there. I flatout don't care anymore what people do, if ya do you will find yourself with a lot less company. Believe me I know. When did I ever say I invented it? The term came out in 1980 and I came out in 1985.

Why is it all my threads end up being about me? Silly wrabbits.

Maybe I am more screwed up because of my opinions on things without the substances... right??? Or maybe a clear mind is needed to make any decisions. Doesn't matter to me. I do what I want, think what I want and you do the same. We all stay happy.

Because you always tell people to google it, like you are in some unique club that nobody has heard of.
And all the kids in the 80s that were sXe that I knew were just a bunch of self-righteous pompous a-holes who thought they were better than everyone else.

I see your point. The reason to say google is is simply because I am too lazy to explain it and I think its unecessary. Those who take interest can look it up themselves. That's all.

From the beginning of the thread it was about the car, originally. Somehow it ends up about me. Oh well.

We all understand that different people drive their cars in different ways.

Even though this thread hasn't gotten too out of hand, it has run it's course.

Park 'em in the garage, or drive 'em like you stole 'em.
