Ten (10) Reasons Why I Will Be Attending Marauderville IX (MV9)

1. THE PEOPLE

The entire Mercury Marauder contingent is among the most welcoming and friendly groups you would ever want to meet. In less than 5 minutes, you will feel like you have known these folks forever. Maybe you already know them on the MM.Net. Now you’ll be able to match screennames with real people and it will make a world of difference in your MM.Net experience. This just happens at every event and everyone has fun. Bring along the wife, the husband, the boyfriend, girlfriend or your significant other. No one feels out of place at Marauderville. In fact, no one ever feels out of place at any Marauder event …. Regardless of size or location.

2. THE CARS

I estimate that this will be one of the largest gatherings of Mercury Marauders for several years. There is the potential to have at least 75 MMs or more on site at the events. Saturday should be the biggest attendance day for folks who can only manage a one-day trip. If you have never seen a major turnout of your favorite car, you certainly don’t want to pass up an opportunity to be part of it. Attendance will be documented in hundreds, if not thousands, of photographs capturing the action over the full 5 days beginning for some with their arrival on Wednesday and lasting until after breakfast on Sunday. There will be a major photo shoot in front of the AACA Museum and you’ll want to be part of it. It’ll be great to look at that photo later and say “Hey, there’s my car!!”

3. THE FUN, EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

There are lots of fun events and activities planned from 12-16 October 2011 in the Hershey/Harrisburg, PA area. The Central Hotel and Conference Center will be the host hotel and the base of operations for Marauderville IX (MV9). There’s a tour of the National Civil War Museum. This is followed by a trip to Hershey’s Chocolate World. There’s also an opportunity to take the Hershey Trolley on a tour of the town. Next is a train ride aboard a working steam engine followed by a visit to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. Later, some of the group will head off to Beaver Springs Dragway for some drag racing. If you don’t plan to make some trips down the 1320, there's plenty of cheering and spectating to be done. You have an opportunity to see some of the quickest S/C and N/A Marauders in the country during MV9. On Saturday, the MM.Net will be visiting the ACAA Antique Auto Museum at Hershey. Marauderville IX is already posted on their schedule. A major photo shoot on the front lawn of the museum is one of the highlights. There will also be an MM.Net sponsored car show with terrific trophies awarded in a bunch of classes. We’ll cap off Saturday night with a trip to Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course for a banquet dinner and maybe some gambling and horse racing. On Sunday morning the gang will have breakfast, pack up and say Goodbye until the next time. If you do it once, you’ll be back.

4. THE PLANNING TEAM

The idea for Marauderville IX (MV9) was hatched before the final bell sounded on MV8 in Charlotte, NC. Folks were so psyched from MV8 that plans for the next one were already being discussed in the parking lot before departure and on the ride home. The planning team consists of Blackened300a/Papillon, Ms. Denmark/Mr. Man, Haggis/Ladyhawke, and Fordfrk/Hammerdown. If you could hand pick the “A” team to set up a Marauder event, this is the group to do it. Every one of them is enthusiastic and a long time participant in Marauder events. They have set up and attended enough events to know what works best. With this team in charge, every detail will be examined to make this the best experience ever. It just keeps getting better every year.

5. THE LOCATION

The Hershey/Harrisburg area is located in south-Central Pennsylvania. The Appalachian Trail curves throughout the Hershey Harrisburg region. The area is beautiful and there’s lots to see and do beyond MV9. It is about 160 miles from New York City and about 385 miles from Boston. St. Louis is a bit farther and closer to an 800 mile trip. Detroit, MI and Charlotte, NC is right at 500 miles. Atlanta is 725 miles. Its about 850 miles from Jacksonville, FL. It is 400 miles from Toronto and 500 miles from Montreal so our northern neighbors in Canada are also within reach. The point is that nearly 50% of all Marauders are within a good day’s drive to Hershey. And, as you will see, some of our MM.Net members drive much, much farther to be part of the fun.

It is understandable that this location may not be convenient for some of the members. Some folks just are not up to a 2 or even 3 day trip just to get to a Marauderville. If you would like a location closer to you or maybe even want to showcase your area for a future Marauderville, get together with your local club and try to set something up. Marauderville X (MV10) will be here before you know it and it may be coming to a location near you.

6. MISSING MARAUDERVILLE II (MV2) IN INDIANAPOLIS IN 2004

I was a new-bee back in 2004 and I saw the notices for Marauderville II (MV2) in Indianapolis, IN. A highlight of this MV was laps around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I just couldn’t make up my mind to drive 600 miles to meet up with folks I really didn’t know. Boy was that a mistake. No sooner were people checking into the hotel that year that pics were being posted of goody bags, full parking lots and activities. The event unfolded right here at my computer …. And I wasn’t there. I could have been; but sat on the fence too long. After that experience, I vowed never to miss another one if I could possibly make it. Don’t make the same mistake I did. If you can and you can swing it …. Just do it.

7. ITS 3 OR 4 DAYS OFF OF WORK

I’ll be taking off from Wednesday through Sunday. A few days away from work is a good thing. If you are lucky like me, your company lets you accumulate vacation days and wants you to use them. This is just a great opportunity to do so. Even the boss needs to take some time off to recharge the batteries and blow some of the cobwebs out of the brain. You’ll come back fresher and better than ever. If your work schedule just won’t allow you to take off during this particular timeframe, that’s understandable.

8. IT’S A GREAT VACATION

The wife and I like staying in hotels and letting someone else make the beds and do the laundry. She looks forward to the experience and enjoys getting out of the house and seeing stuff and doing things. Eating out at restaurants and not have to fool with cooking and cleaning up is great. Its just the whole experience of doing something different in a different location that makes it an exciting vacation opportunity.

9. IT’S A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET THE MM.NET PLAYERS

If you have been on the MM.Net for just months or even years and haven’t met up with folks in person, this is your chance. Marauderville IX (MV9) will allow you to put faces to screennames and enhance your Forums experience. Maybe you’ve sat at the keyboard and sense that some people know each other better than just through the internet posting. You’re right … many of us do. Join the club and meet some real people.

10. THE PEOPLE

I already said this above; but it bears repeating. There is not another group of people that I would rather spend time with than my friends at MM.Net and Marauderville.

Bluerauder,

I've been on the fence myself about attending MV9; your 10 reasons has convinced me to go for it. While I am dealing with a lot of personal issues right now (including my finances), it's no guarantee that I can 'wait til next year' to attend such a huge event; I know I can attend this years' event for sure, but have been hesitant to make a commitment for many reasons.

When I bought my MM back in March, saw the info about MV9, had a list of mods I wanted to do to my MM prior to MV9, and knew being able to take time off from work wouldn't be a problem, it was a shoe-in that I would go.

However, a lot has happened between then and now and the only mod I've completed on my MM was one that I didn't have to spend any money on to get done. I've bought stuff to do other mods, but have hesitated to go through with them because it was a possibility that I would need to re-sell them for the money (still is); also had to cancel an arrangement with DR in Jax, FL to have 4.10s installed and a dyno tune.

I will be retiring from the Air Force 1 Jan, so my financial future is uncertain, at best (going through a divorce as well); I plan on moving to Asheville, NC to go back to school and be closer to my kids; they are my #1 priority right now. I knew that buying an MM earlier this year was something most people wouldn't have agreed with, considering my situation, but I've been wanting one for 5 years and knew if I didn't buy one then, I probably would not have the opportunity again. I'm glad I did; I got a very good price, got to 'know 'er better' with a 3-day drive from NM to SC, I've met some great people, and I'm HAPPY.

I have been able to meet some of the Carolina Marauders group when I went to a car show in Charlotte back in May; to this day, I'm glad I didn't 'chicken out' and actually went...some of the nicest/funniest/bestest people I've been around in a long time. I'm looking forward to going to Rex's (SC_cheesehead) the weekend after next for the cruise-in/pool party and I'm more than grateful that Rex will let me bring my kids with me (happens to be same weekend I get to see them). As CBT likes to say, "WIN!". (Aside from 'TWSS')

I also met up with Fastblackmerc in Wilmington last month so he could swap out my LCM and EATC...he saved me a LOT of money and I will always be grateful for what he did. (Another "WIN!")

I plan on arriving on Thursday; there are a lot of great activities planned for the event and I don't want to miss the opportunity to have a long weekend of fun as well as meeting other MM owners. I have a feeling that making more friends in the MM community is what I need right now, and I don't want to sit around and say 'what if' by not attending. I hope DOOM will be there; I really want to see his 'bling' in person. I'm also excited to see what mods everyone else has done to their MM to make it unique and would love to have a chance to run my MM down the track...even if it is just stock. (WIN, WIN, WIN!!!)

My point in this long-winded post? You did your job, Bluerauder, and you did it well. You convinced me to get off the fence...see you in October!:burnout:
