They are done with the entire Space Program ... for those of us that grew up and lived through the space race ..... Mercury, Apollo, Gemini, and the Shuttle, this will truly be a sad day. :(

I didn't realize we were that close to the end.
When the lil woman and I went to Florida in April, we swung by the Center to see.
Pad B was about totally disassembled. Could not believe my eyes.
All that is left is the lightning protection towers.Pad A to the right with the final flight of Endeavor.

I had the honor to work at Kennedy and Cape Canveral from 1984 to 1994. Saw many,many manned and un-manned launches and can't believe it could ever stop. Un-manned will continue with the Air Force and private contractors but to rely on the "Soviets" to get us to the space station is sooo asinine.
This will truly be a sad day for me and my former fellow co-workers.

So in watching NASA TV, it seems that NASA is going back to its roots.....back to the Apollo design with the new Team Orion designed MPCV (multi purpose crew vehicle), that is designed to go further into space around the mid 2030's or about 20 years from now. This new vehicle is not made to go to the space station, but for asteroid exploration, but can dock at the space station if need be.

As always with these shuttle threads, I shall contribute my piece of history. That being the first ever launch in '81 of Columbia. Dad and I (age 8) slept out all night to capture this. The countless thousands of other onlookers made the moment so surreal.
