View Full Version : Rear fender skirts

I am hoping to find a source of rear fender skirts for my '03 Marauder. I would appreciate any information that will help me find them. I also would like to know how many Marauder owners would want to buy a pair if I can find a source.
Umm...
Forgive me and probably the rest of us, why fender skirts?
You'd definitely be the first.

I personally like the Poodle skirt, but it does look a little strange on the Marauder.
Hmmm??? Seemed to work on the Sable.

Please leave the fender skirts off the Marauder. The looked fine on my 77 Marquis Broughm, but not on a Maruader!

Thanks for you responses, gentlemen. It's clear I'm swimming upstream on this one. To the question"Why?": I guess it's a throwback to the days when a rod without skirts was naked. I really do like the appearance of fender skirt. To me they complete the body line better than all the various plastic spoilers attached to the lower body. There is a Marquis here in Naples with matching skirts and I think they look terrific. Unfortunately for me, the owner said they came with the (new) car. The salesman said he ordered them special, but that was several years ago and they are no longer available from that source. On the other hand, I never could afford the skirted rod when I was young. So call it second childhood.
I do appreciate your responses.

I would think you'd want to shave the wheel well opening lip to make it a bit flater, longer, etc...

The key here is Dens location...Naples, Florida. Which is nothing more than a "high-end hospice".

Possible solution is a local quality body shop that can make out of fibreglass.
I would not do it tho!!

Hey, there are many guys on this site that have photoshop.
Can someone create an MM with skirts on the rear wells, so we can see what it looks like?
I, too, remember some of the old hot rods with fender skirts. Dang, I'm old! Before I got my MM, I had a Cadillac Fleetwood with skirts. I would have to see an MM with one before I got them, though. It might interfere with the look of the big alloy wheels on the back.

I am rather surprised by TAF's negative attitude. He is usually a very helpful and informative memeber. Just because this mod my not be up his alley doesn't mean he has to beat up on someone who does. Now I am not saying that this mod is on my list. This is something I would not do. Just as I would not put a chrome grill or curb feelers on my MM. But this site is supposed to be a place where people share there ideas and get help in making their car what they want.

I like #437's suggtestion. If someone could doctor up a photo by adding skirts, we could all se how it looks. Maybe that would cure me once and for all.
Dsrmenace, look up about at TAF's post. I know, it's not a real MM because it's not black (!), but it gives you an idea.

This is my first post however I have been shadowing this site since 10/01/2003.......and a primary reason for purchasing my MM 300b 10/09/2003-129 miles - built 10/29/2002 - dealer lot since 11/14/2002 - have all the 300a characteristics except full size spare.
I have read almost every thread available and have viewed all pics. I have ideas for my MM and will share the info with the forum. I plan to attend events and meet most of the "gang" in person.
I assume the meets are a means to share ideas with regards to what we all have in common...MM
The idea that a member would call my ideas for mods "stupid" in person or on this forum is beyond my comprehension.
The Naples / Marco Island area of Florida is one swingin place, especially if you like golf....boating

Personally I don't think the design of the Marauder lends itself to fender skirts. Especially the MM with the extended "flare"
The mid '90s Caprices/Impalas on the other hand were designed for them. they even came with them built in to start!

Just as you have a right to your opinion...I have a right to mine. And putting "fender skirts" on this car is STUPID in my opinion.

Nothing "obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, HATEFUL, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws." In my response....Except...I feel it is obscene & vulgar to put skirts on this car....Thank you for playing, though.

All right, guys. TAF is usually one of the nicest guys around, except when he and Marty are flaming each other! Dean, glad to have you on board. We get so passionate about these cars that sometimes we use terms that sound like personal attacks, when in reality they are simply strongly held opinions. I sometimes go back and re-read my posts a second time as soon as they are posted, because I know that what I write may sometimes come across as being more personal than I intended it to be. I'm not taking any sides in this, I just want to make sure that a couple of new, or relatively new members don't get the wrong impression of us.

Bob Kessler: I think you're pullin' my chain, but if not, I wouldn't want chrome for the same reason we all bought these beauties--they're cool and subdued. R Dean, welcome to the site. I also have a Marauder 300B that is a 300A with trac control--I believe you make number 4 or 5 that we know of --I think we have a very rare bird--all were built around end of Oct , first week or so in Nov of '02. If you ever get down in the Ft Worth area, let me know--we have a good group in the Metroplex--by the way, I had a couple of Mercs with fender skirts--hadn't thought of putting them on the MM---enjoy your Marauder and come see us soon, Maury

Cruztaker no way would I embarrass YOU (not possible) or anyone else in this group (the whining would be unbearable) with the possible exception of “the ladies choice” and Sheriff J Lo…. Plan to limit mods to sheep skin seat covers / red shag carpet on the dash and back deck/black fuzzy dice and pink tassels off the rearview mirror…Oh, must not forgot the Coach Stoops bobble head for the rear deck.
Sorry dsmenace and Silvermarauder no fender shirts for this MM
but how about a full fake fabric convertible top, thinking of fuchsia to match the pink tassels.
I like the term “Subtle Cosmetic Upgrades” used by THJ in a prior thread…
Just wondering after debadging the trunk whether the two remaining holes would hold the Continental Kit ??? Would have to move the License Plate to the rear window next to Coach Stoops…. doubt if he would care, I think he has other things on his mind, mobile quarterback /running game.
Martyo – Thanks for the heads-up … had a good friend with the “A type personality”
Survived the office bombing but died 19 months later > brain aneurysm while watching a HS Football game. Just refused to stay on his medication…..looks like we share with Cruzer, MM’s born about the same time period 300B w/TC
and 300A characteristics, excluding full size spare.. Dean 10/29 VIN 655873, Martyo 11/04 and Cruzer 11/12
Cruzer thanks for the invite always liked Fort Worth traffic when compared to Big D.
But please no discussion/debate re “notch babies” ….

Hi Carfixer--
Thanks for your note. I bought the car in Mentor, Ohio, in September and moved to Naples one week later. I had to hustle to move from my "stuff" from my traded-in, almost new Marquis to the Marauder--running lights behind the grille, radar detector and trailer tow. Because the book said "Do NOT tow with Marauder for first 5K miles, I checked with my automotive engineer brother to see if I would be in trouble I had a very full 5x8x5 trailer to pull. Big Bro said "Keep it out of overdrive, away from mountains, and at a reasonable speed." I did. It was fine.

Hi R. Dean--
I appreciate your note. I see that we already have pix of two MMs with trailer hitches. I'll still try to take a shot of mine and add it. Like most, the actual extender is removable, so there's little to see when it's "put away."
I'll take the pic when it warms up a little. As a guy born in Buffalo, reared in Detroit and long in Cleveland, I can enjoy telling you that the locals here in Naples are concerned about how "cold" it will be tonight--45 degrees. Even now it's so cold (58) we have to put something over our T-shirts. Tough, huh?
I don't have a flak jacket (I DO have the fancy black MM jacket), but truth is I'm an old f--t and the flak doesn't bother me. In fact, it's kinda fun to read.
Stay in touch!

I may not be as short...but you'll find with me Okie...I can get straight to the point.
Maybe you should go back and read the start of this thread...
After Dens post of this thread...there are 8 posts by folks other than me either making fun or derailing the thread to talk about kilts.
I come in with a joke about Naples, FL. Which is FULL of retired folks that put stuff like this on Cadillacs, Town Cars, Grand Marquis, etc.
Den...then comes back wanting to know why Thomas Potter would not want to do this to his Marauder.
I say "Cause it is STUPID" and I even provide a pic that was posted by another member in a thread a long time ago, (who just so happens to live just north of Naples and he did the Photoshop as a gag) which shows how ugly it would be in I guess every owners eyes except Den.
Then you decide to use your 1st post coming at me personally.
And frankly you're up to 6 now and not a single one has been of any use here other than to come at me and "challenge" me looking forward to meeting me in person. Frankly Okie...that is not one of your most wise decisions.
Now...when get to the point that you contribute to this site then feel free to chime in with any criticism of me you want. But until you have something constructive to contribute...I request that you shut the :censor: up!

I dunno for sure but this thread is starting to sound like some of the other forums that I've visited (and try to avoid). The tone of some of the comments make it sound like a personal attack and that is uncalled for.
Some folks have made negative comments about some ideas I've had for mods and I mostly just ignore them. No comment, no dispute, no argument, just do it and post pics. Some will like it and some won't but it's my car so my opinion is the only one that really counts.
Get used to fender skirts, cause we're fixin to join up with the classic Merc crowd at Indy. There will be plenty of them there.
