View Full Version : Marauder Overkill?...

First of all i would like to say that i know... IT'S YOUR CAR AND U CAN DO WITH IT WHATEVER U WANT TO now since that has been said lets begin.

Even tho our cars resemble vic's and gm's there are a few things that make it stand out... the grill, head lights, rims, bumpers, spoiler, etc....
with that being said i can spot a marauder from a good distance just by those few things.

I have a friend who is really into imports, and he pointed something out to me the other day and it made me think of some of the ppl on this board. we came across a honda s2000 and an acura rsx and noticed that they were (in his words) "Totally riced out".... graphics and decals everywhere. ridiculous

i named this thread "Marauder Overkill" because seeing those two cars made me think a bout a few ppl who seem like they are coming mighty close to doing the same thing.. in my opinion.

I know my car is a Marauder... says it on my registration lol.. also the gauge cluster, floor mats, rear bumper. honestly thats good enough for me...
im just not understanding (and to each its own) why some ppl want Marauder broad casted on every piece of the car (seems a good bit in the interior so far.. mostly)
pedals, door sills, around the shifter, on the CAI, hood insulator, seat belt covers, trunk liner, on the dash, fender badges, etc etc;
If u love the car thats good and all.... but im thinking thats just tacky... but like i said at the beginning ITS YOUR CAR AND U CAN DO WHATEVER U WANT TO TO IT.
a good amount of members proudly express their dislike about the "Donk" style or "Wagon Wheeled" culture... saying it "destroys" the car and all that other recklessness. this overkill is just one lil thing that is slowly starting to urk me. the way i look at it... Ford put Marauder on these cars enough times to let ppl know, in a few nice noticeable places. but if i look at your car and on every damn panel or attachment i see MARAUDER MARAUDER MARAUDER its just tacky.. every time i turn my head Marauder is in my face, ha @ that.

to be honest i dont even know why i started this thread, just felt like sharing my thoughts on this issue... i just dont wanna see anyone take it too far and have a Marauder Overdose.

now nowhere in here am i asking ppl why they choose to do it... im just stating my view of what ppl are doing.

Now lets see where this takes us:duel:

I personally like the bone stock look. That is why I kept mine bone stock. Would have loved a supercharger and that is it. That is just me though. I like the "sleeper" look. Plus, I also like to keep something that is somewhat rare as close to stock appearance as possible.

Most of the stuff I've seen so far I think has been pretty tasteful, but I agree; too much of anything can be a bad thing.

What are your thoughts about the godshead logos and Marauder names on the hood and trunk liners?

As for the interior, I think there's only three references: the "Marauder" name on the instrument cluster and the two embossed godshead emblems on the face of the front seats, correct?

On the stock exterior, you've got the embossed name on the rear bumper cover, and the four center caps on the wheels.

On my car, I've replaced the waterfall emblem on the grill with a Colex godshead emblem, I've done the godshead center cap mod to the trunk emblem, added Marty-O front fender badges, and SS inserts in the rear bumper cover. That's about as much as I'd want to see, personally.

I take that back, I did put a custom "Supercharged" emblem on the DS rear fascia, but that's not Marauder-specific.

Do you have some pics of the overkill you mentioned?

I had the plates in the interior and sold them. I just liked the look, I would have wanted them even if they didn't say Marauder. I still have the petals, but saying Marauder on that is overkill to me too. I just wish the same on the bumper was in a different place or something. Inserts will happen someday though.

i have yet to see a car that has MARAUDER written ALL over it

i know several members that have it on different locations but nobody that has ALL of those things. i think for the most part people on here know how far they could take it and are pretty good with sticking to it. like i said, i have yet to see a marauder with every marauder decal on that particular car.

i don't believe in keeping cars 100% stock either, its your car you have to make it your own. overkill is a bit harsh though, i wouldnt call my fender badges overkill lol

I can park my car beside ANY stock marauder and it will look exactly the same!

Our mustangs are the "loud" cars. I like my MM being discrete and subtle. I do have an SVT badge on the rear of my MM though. Most don't notice it.

I just get pissed on here at the "purists" Come on, don't be an ass because someone changed their factory wheels. I'll admit while they are a damn good factory wheel. There are better options out there and they are a matter of taste and function for those that want something more than a lame 8" wheel.

have u not viewed some of the threads that ppl have posted?.... honestly...

as i stated it seems like ppl are keeping it to the inside of the car... for now
i have seen Marauders with the gods head decals in the rear quarter windows, seen the word Marauder on the rear quarter panel on a long the front doors at the bottom.
every item i said there has been a thread about it..... i always wanted to say this.... "have u tried the search function"? :D

as i said, its your car u can do what u wanna do..... i honestly like the gods head in place of the waterfalls... but im not about to cut into the emblems like some ppl did and place a center cap into the spot.

Only real appearance mod that is almost a must is the trunk lip spoiler.

Other than that it becomes a matter of personal taste (or in some cases, lack thereof...)

But what if a guy puts a Cobra motor in his car? :dunno:

It's still a marauder

First off our stock motors are out of the Lincoln Mark VIII.

Ford put the motor in the "Cobra" in '99 because the 302 was up to emissions standards any longer.

I never saw the need for SVT or Police Interceptor badges ever!
SVT was asked to do the air intake on marauder but said NO!

Old AJ said "I don't work on Mercurys" Yeah well go suck an egg AJ!

SO Jack Roush was asked to step in and handle it

I wish the car with the word marauder somewhere on the side as to this day people have no idea of what it is:eek::shake:

I believe some of the MMs in Michigan have the Marauder name on the front doors, too. I have a Marauder front plate and a god's head front emblem. However, my seat covers hide the god heads. I'm back to the acceptable amount. :D

The Special Edition badges on the fenders, though, are extra credit.

I think you are "irked" Urkel. :P

There's a big damn difference between putting 24" wheels, Lambo doors, Buick portholes, and Skittles paint jobs on Marauders and a few accents like SS Inserts, trunk liners and door sills. The car still looks stock. I agree that you can overkill the "Marauder" theme to a certain extent. But 24" wagon wheels ain't even in the same category. If you can't see the difference ...... well  Ya hear what I'm sayin'. ;)

I agree that they can do whatever they want to with THEIR car .... but I don't have to like it, don't have to be polite and pretend that I like it, and can express that opinion wherever and whenever I please. That's Life and that's Freedom.

OK.

I saw where this thread was heading, and yeah, you are obviously irritated over "Mega-Marauder" badging.

While us owners try and maintain civility on this site, we also try and be patient and a little forgiving in many areas.

Now, your irritation has progressed into name-calling in just a matter of hours.

Like Mac said, to own a car, is to have a righ to mod it to whatever tastes you have. I'm not a donk fan, and I don't see the need or get the look of the oversized tires, but it's not my car so I don't care.

I do think there are overkill options out there, and I definitely like the more subtle look. But whatever makes you appreciate your car is cool with me.

+10 on the Trunk spoiler, that is a definite must mod. I'm OK with Cobra badges, and all that.

Love what you drive and the pieces will fall where they may. Others may not like it, but others don't drive and see your car everyday, so who cares. Taste is subjective. I'm not a fan of rap or hip hop, but I can appreciate it and the talent it takes to make it. Thats the same view I have on cars. It might not be for me, but it's not my ride

SVT was asked to do the air intake on marauder but said NO!

When I got my MM, a second-hand dealer had put their info to the left of the rear license plate with cheap-o lettering. Most letters were peeling off, I wanted them all off. Needless to say I did some scuffing to the area getting all that crap off. An SVT badge from an '03 Cobra covered it nicely. Not too big, not too small...a nice touch in my opinion. That SVT badge was, and likely will be, my only exterior modification....with a purpose!

Lol, not me. Having seen how most of those "producers" work, I can't really hold that genre as a whole to a high standard. I could probably count on one hand the people in that genre whom I think have real ability.

Of course, that's not to say that's exclusive to that genre either: plenty of punk rock bands, TONS of pop singers, and a fair number of country acts are the same to me. In fact, just about every genre is inundated with crap these days, they've all become so diluted that it's all turning into one big genre of just "music".

Only category of music I don't see that much in is serious symphonic composition, mostly because it takes a solid knowledge and application of music theory to do that right.

Well, after so much whoop law--I kinda understand it --I think--I myself--got rid of the MM badges front and back on the car and put the MARTY-O badges on the front sides and that's it on the outside --along with the bumper of course--

On the inside, thanks to fastblackmerc , door sills--I have --in RED - of course--the car name --

So it's 3 on the outside --5 on the inside--trunk inside lid has in RED of course a felt board that says car name--

SO mine is still looked at by many as ==W T F is it --like many of you--BTW-=-What ever happen to our friend who had that tag??--Oh yeah!

We had a member in our Carolina group too --it was W T F is it?---NC State took all like tags away cause of ....well we won't go there ==

Enjoy your MM the way you like it--doesn't mean we have too thought-just keep that in mind--DUH!

I prefer the stock look. "Marauder" on the floor mats and rear bumper is all I need. I actually don't want 100 Mercury men everywhere either, or I'd get tired of looking at them too. I like the subtleness of the original design, as it's about right for me. I do like the fender badges though...

You can just say it... new music sucks. Or at least what makes it on the radio.

I agree a lotta stuff sounds the same, but if something sells they will keep producing it until that cow has been milked dry.

The only thing that really gives me grief is how homogenized everything has become in the realm of popular music. It's not that it's simple, but that there is no distinction any more. Hip hop music is actually the best example I can think of: the genre consists of a rap lyricist speaking vocals over a "club" track that has its roots in the same dance/techno music everyone used to bash, and many of them are trying to integrate elements of dubstep music in as well. I already hate how simplistic a great majority of every one of those genres are by themselves, but mixed together they come together to form this mess of unoriginality that represents nothingness. Seriously, listen to a "hip hop" club song of today, then listen to a house song from like 10 years ago, same formula pretending to be something else. Talk about not knowing your roots...

some ppl have not chosen to put vinyls/stickers/decals or what so ever on the outside of the vehicle cuz they say they like to keep the stock look.... but if u open your doors and on every piece of the interior i see something Marauder on it..... that is what i was getting at. NOT RIMS!
MARAUDER OVERKILL is using the word Marauder wayyyy toooo much....... again NOT LARGER RIMS

im surprised that someone has Marauder stitched in the head liner.... or does someone have that already

I don't know if you realize this, but it basically sounds like you are saying "donk excess is fine, but brand badging excess is not."

Which would be an awfully big double-standard of course.

I'll chalk it up to poor communication skills and assume that's not what you mean though.

You obviously did not take my advice.

This is a "lose-lose" as far as I am concerned.

People like what they like,...

It's as simple as that.

There are much more important things in life to get worked up over than placing a 'threshold' on how many instances of badging you can find in or on a vehicle.

Accept it or move on.

I have 18" wheels on my car, Colex badges that say Marauder, Marty-O Marauder fender badges, Marauder on the rear bumper with SS inserts, and Marauder on my front door sills. It all adds up to 521RWHP, I'm thinking about getting a couple more..... along with a nitrous kit that says Marauder on it, a 250 shot would be good for 500 hp then....

Everyone should have their own opinions, that's what makes us who we are.....

Mine doesn't say Marauder anywhere. That makes me sad :(

Makes you sad and everyone in the general population happy. ;)

i honestly like the gods head in place of the waterfalls... but im not about to cut into the emblems like some ppl did and place a center cap into the spot.
I was unhappy with the look of the colex Gods head on the grill and rear trunk so the center cap insert mod looks best and subtle.

i have to break it down again...... OVERKILL

lets say.... there is a fuel cap with Marauder on it... u have to get it
a fuse box top with marauder on it... u have to get it
middle console compartment top with gods head on it... u have to have it
a gods head dip stick, etc;

if someone was to come out with everything in the engine bay with either a gods head or Marauder etched in it u would have it...... OVERKILL
grasp it now?........

seen a few members cars with Marauder on too many items
Thats the gas bib which says Marauder and has a Gods head. Thats the design and it goes with the car.
Most of the items designed for our car have a engraving or a design on them. I have the hood and trunk liner that have the Gods head and "Marauder" stitched into it. It stands out more then the factory stock one and I receive a lot of compliments on them. My coils covers say Marauder and have the Gods head buttons and etched into the cover. I bought them used and they complete my look with my cam covers. I didn't have a option for a non-etched one so they are on my car. Colex makes fluid covers etched with the Gods head. Thats how they come for the Marauder, I wanted them to dress up the engine bay so they are there. Is it too much, yeah but its what is offered for the car and I wanted them.
You dont own my car or drive it so your opinion dont mean **** to me.

Well since we are "being" honest here I have never, never like the factory wheels:neener:

Way too much for the cars. They don't look half bad on DPB, DTR. & SB. NO way on the black!:P
You're insane! The rims look best on the black car.

Easy there, bubba, the chip on your shoulder's about to fall off...

As for the Marauder decals on the rear quarter windows, those are MM.net National Member decals, but I guess showing pride in belonging to the organization is just a little too "over the top" for you, huh? :shake:
I have the sticker too, I guess I would need to broadcast what candy I like along side the door for it to be OK. :shake:

im starting to see why ppl dislike the site This site has always been welcoming of anyone who wants to be here and who has a respect and appreciation of the Marauder in particular and of his fellow members in general. It's also important to know that this car club meets not only in cyberspace but in real places like Charlotte Motorspeedway, Gettysburg, Indy, Bert's Ice cream and today at Capt. Dan's crab shack to name a tiny fraction of in person get togethers. Why do people go way outta their way, spend their hard earned money and precious leisure time to do this? Because they LOVE the site and the great people on it. Instead of making a mountain out of this molehill, why don't you get yourself out to the next meet ....or host one of your own. You will be welcome!

As for this thread, it's of minor importance but it does give everyone a chance to give an opinion. Stay out of it. People love to give their opinions but don't really need a reply from the OP.;)

Now the membership comes along and answers your "opinion" with their opinion and you get all crazy over it? There is medication for you if see the Doctor or you can just chill out.

Mac, YOU are the one that brought up the subject with a confrontational tone.

In past threads, you've jumped on posters that have expressed their dislike of big wheels, "candy" paint schemes, etc., (I know, I'm one of those you've bashed).

You post up a "hot button" topic, expect some "heat" in the responses. If you're unable to accept and respond to those without showing your azz, you've got the problem, not the posters.

You like big wheels 'n stuff, I don't. I like Marauder badging and godshead accessories, you don't. Big deal. We've got differing opinions. This just in: that's life.

I think this thread shows the diverse opinions of the members, one of the reasons I visit every day..........as for the marauder branded aftermarket accessories, the ingenuity of someone to come up these products simply amaze me, some I laugh at :D, because they are not my style, some I think are pretty cool.

I like the stock look, although when I bought mine it had the front badge and rear waterfall blacked out, at first I didn't like it, and thought I'd change it back to pure stock, but I have grown to like it. It took a long time to find a Black with light flint, blacked out badges wasn't going to deter me.

...and just gotta say, I don't know what it is you are after, Mac-Merc. You expressed your opinion and others expressed theirs; somewhere in the middle, everyone got fired up. That's human nature...everyone thinks their opinion is the the best/most correct one. Of course, we couldn't have this discussion if the MM was offered in just one color and NO mods could be done to it....but the fact is, there are 4 (factory) colors (which anyone has a right to change) and there CAN be mods done and stuff added (which anyone has a right to do to their own car).

The bottom line is, people do these things because it makes them happy; they aren't doing it to piss other people off or to gain their 'approval'.

One thing that IRKS me is, when I see a Mustang or Corvette (just 2 examples of many I have seen) and the rear LP says "STANG" or "VETTE"...really? I'm glad they put that on their LP, or I wouldn't have known what kind of car that is. But those owners did that because it made them happy, not because they know I think its dumb and they want to get under my skin. But that's my opinion and it's neither right nor wrong, just an opinion. I haven't seen one yet, but if I do see a MM with "MARAUDER" (or something similar) on the LP, I will probably not like it...but again JUST MHO. I do plan on getting a personalized plate with "MY112SB" on it...will EVERYONE like it and feel the same about it as me? No.

Is it possible to have 'overkill' (as you state)? Yes, but each person's limit of overkill is different...he thinks 4 is too much, she thinks 7, and I think 9. So, shoud she and I change our number to 4? No.

My MM is still stock and I love the way it looks, but I do have a laundry list of mods I want to do to it and I'm going to make those mods happen; that is what I want to do to my MM and it will make me happy when they are done. If other people don't like it, fine, don't like it. In the end, I'm always going to think my car is the best...not because I dislike everyone else's, but because it's MINE. :burnout:

I look forward to meeting other MM owners because we own a car that is rarely seen and love to see what others did to their MM; some things I like, some things I don't, but I'm not gonna tell them "you shouldn't have done that because I don't like it".

A Saleen Focus?? Wasnt aware of that, though the focus is a big seller for Ford, so I guess I could see it.

The thing about this thread, at least as I see it, taste is all subjective and sometimes we bash on a car because it's not our taste, but really that is disrespecting someone elses tastes. At the end of the day, love your car, no matter what you do to it, some will like it, some won't. It's like a movie, lots of people loved the Lord of The Rings, I was so bored with it I would rather watch paint dry. Taste is all subjective and as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder
