View Full Version : Traction Control

Please don't flame me, because I've been searching and will probably still mess this up. But first and foremost, I'm not quite sure that this is an appropriate place to post this.

Second. I'm a little confused on traction control. I just bought a 2003 MM and it does not have the switch to the left of the steering wheel for traction control. I'm assuming this means there is no traction control (sure couldn't tell from a dead stop romp....sorry, cheap shot).

I -THINK- this makes the car a 300A, which answers another question of, 'What the hell is all this 300A/300B business?!"

But lastly, if I don't have traction control, does this mean I can go to a non-staggered tire set up and NOT have problems with brakes applying or ignition cutting or whatever issues seem to happen with different size tires.

Thanks much, looking forward to learning a lot about this car.

Micah

You still need the staggered tire size.

You still need the staggered tire size.

If the car doesn't have traction control you do not have to run staggered tire sizes. Though if the rear tire height is much different than the stock the computer should be informed so the speedo and shift points are right.

bigmerc, a couple of minor corrections.

All '03s have the 4R70W, not just the 300As. 4R75W came in '04. Also, the same applies to the painted cam covers.

Having said that, Micahdogg, there are many small variations in the list bigmerc281 posted. Depending on how many of which parts they had left over at the end of Job 1, some early 300Bs got some combination of hood light, electric fuel door release, full-size spare, or speaker grilles, etc. There is no single cutoff point for all the various feature differences between '03 300A and 300B. Note: all 2004 Marauders are called 300A, but have the features of the 2003 300B...(no, it's not confusing at all... :shake: )

Cool beans. I like the factory wheels/tires for now, but who knows what my taste will be in a few years. It's just nice to know I'm not limited, and any major variation can be addressed in the tune.

I'm pretty sure I've got all the 300A features, but I don't recall having a hood light. This was a one owner with 33K miles and it came with the window sticker and some kind of factory dealer checklist that the salesperson would have walked through with the owner - I thought that was pretty cool.

Thanks guys.

Hey, that is pretty cool. Might have to put that on my goodie list. Thanks for the heads up.

Speaking of things on my goodie list.......does anyone know if Ford still makes the clock for the 300A's? Looks like the HULK pushed one of the buttons and put a hairline crack in mine. Didn't notice until the other day.

If it's still in production, prolly won't be able to pick it up from Ford as a separate unit, most likely would have to buy the 300A dash trim piece with the clock in it, and it ain't gonna be cheap.

The same thing goes for the OH console. If the compass goes out, Ford will sell you the replacement; installed in a new console. For around $1,000 bucks. :shake:

Other option may be to check e-bay or craigslist for someone parting out a car that might have the clock and/or dash trim piece for sale.

Surely that clock was available in the Grand Marquis or Crown Vic's?

No sure if it was the same trim panel or not. PM gdmjoe for info on that, he's our resident Panther part number expert.

My 96 Grand Marquis had the exact same clock in it as my Marauder does (just a different wood grain trim).
