However, moderators still need to grow a pair (bunnies excepted, of course) and use better judgement when using the all powerful "IBTL" button. That should only be used as a last resort.

And to all you whiners out there that constantly PM the moderators to complain about threads, JUST STOP! If you don't like the way a thread is going, stop participating, it really is that simple. You got a personal beef, PM the person you have a problem with and work it out.

No, the point of *this* thread is to address the issue that moderation has become the rule, not the exception. It has now become too easy for the squeaky wheel to steer the direction of many rather than letting threads play out. As Mary so eloquently pointed out, threads just die on their own.

Political threads are popular because politics got a lot more important for people in the last few elections, and a lot more people are getting involved. Like it or not, politics has a huge effect on our hobby - from the price of gas, to the price of cars and the financing for these, to what manufacturer stays in business or gets sold to italy or china, to what we can get away with as far as modifications go for emissions and so on.

And this is visible on every car forum, not just this one.

I think the last two big political topics, while VERY lively, weren't particularly offensive to anyone; I don't think serious name-calling happened, and I would cite that it wasn't serious because whenever it did happen, nothing came of it and the thread continued well on its way.

I can't imagine how lame this site would be if all posts had to be 100% Marauder-related. I love the car, but c'mon, that's absolutely preposterous to think that a community could survive solely on one topic. Especially when that one topic is a car that was made for only two years by a brand that has been killed off by its parent company.

Some of you guys have attended every Marauderville. Did you talk only about Marauders there? No, I doubt it. I haven't attended any MVs because I've only had my Marauder for 2.5yrs, but I'd like to think that people could engage in civil discussions in person, get to know each other, etc. That's the whole purpose of a meet.

And that's what, at least to me, a messageboard's purpose is. Getting to know people. Not just their cars, but learning a little bit about that person, sharing good stories and bad stories. Making a connection. I met Dom in person, and even though a lot of time his posts make me want to run the car with the garage door closed (love ya, Dom, but it's true! Ha!) I felt like having read his posts, I knew the guy a little bit more before I actually met him. It made meeting him a lot easier, y'know?

You see, I (and I suspect many of you) learn about my fellow MM.net (and CV.net) folks by reading their posts (or ignoring them when they are offensive or useless). Political threads, as long as I'm not inundated with them and they follow a somewhat logical progression, can actually be quite handy. I've read plenty of political threads where I thought I'd disagree with the O/P, but they present an issue in a certain light that makes me A) question my own stance on that issue B) look at that person in a different, more positive light.

I've donated to CVN in the past as that was my first Panther website, and I associate more with that community (case in point, 2010 and 2011 STAP meets). Not to say I wouldn't donate here, but threads like this as well as the ones that get locked, the members that get banned, etc., are certainly a reminder why I've directed some of the few extra dollars I have to CVN...

TCStangs and this on the other hand - which does censor out some things, and the moderators do lock a lot of threads - I don't contribute to.

I maintain that if you don't like a thread's topic, don't read it. Simplest solution, won't affect you and the need to censor someone else will go away. Win-win.

First of all, Mike does NOT have to explain his actions to TMF, we have been moderating here for quite a while and anyone who has been here for as long as the OP has, should know better than to start the threads in question. The political thread was "allowed" to run its course over a number of days, and it was determined that it was time to close it.

Next, this board has always had an open door policy,, meaning that you are welcome to come and go as you please, BUT,,as far as what goes on here vis a vis threads, topics, thread lockings ETC, it is our discretion how to deal with all of these and more. We try to maintain a civil site and there are those who seem to always want to "push the envelope". When that happens we shove the envelope back to where it is supposed to be. After the situation has been rectified, there is always a pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth about how "unfair" the moderation is here. As I said earlier we have an open door policy. If our moderation is not up(or down) to your standards, be careful to not let the door hit you on the way out.

Wow... I haven't been a member for long on here but have a vested interest in the site, the car and more importantly, all the great people I've met thought here.

I didn't participate nor did I read the political thread because, quite frankly, I don't care to get involved. I have my opinion and I'll keep it to myself and the polls.

But just like in school where you have a principal and you have to follow the rules of the principal and the school, I'd say the same applies here and in life PERIOD. You break the law there are repercussions. To say that a thread gets closed because the mods see fit is the least of a "punishment".

The short time that I've been a member here, I've read a couple of threads of people who say that they "are taking a break" from the site and they come back a couple weeks later. That shows something about the site.... I've seen some of the other "no holds barred" forums and honestly, some of the things that occur there are disgusting. I'd classify MM.net as classy. There is a certain decorum that is followed by the site & it's members and I think that the mods have a HUGE part of that.

If I had to have one of my MV9 vendors that I'm working with check out MM.net and if it were ANYTHING like a certain Mustang forum that I've checked out, I'd be utterly embarrassed to be associated with it. The cursing, banter and l lewd comments & pics that are posted there are ridiculous.

Personally, I'm proud to be a part of MM.net.

My 2 cents if you care or not.

Politics is a touchy subject. For many of us regulars that discuss in those threads, we are civil, have good discussion, and yes we do sometimes change each other minds. But for every one person that can do that, another 3 will use attacks in their comments completely demeaning another point of view. Now while I subscribe to the "if you don't like it, don't participate" idea, and I think complaining to a mod about a political thread is stupid, that is a mods job. When someone complains, shut it down before it goes too far, or lock it before it gets to that point.

We don't need to restrict eveything on the site to strictly Marauder, but until we can prove that we can be adult in the political threads they will get locked or not exist at all. I won't call out particular members, cause that's not my style, I just don't take the bait and leave it be. But others can't resist and thats why they spiral out of control

Mike and all the Mods have done a great job, llok at the meets, the get togethers, the regional car clubs, the exchange of information, the joke threads, and all the funny stuff that Casey posts. It's family.

I don't agree with calling Mike out publicly, should of done a pm

I completely disagree with threads being closed. I really do not care what the subject is and if I don't care to discuss I will not open the thread, simple as that. I do not understand why we cannot discuss whatever we want. We sure pick and choose everything else. Lots of you do not like Import cars, so you don't buy them it's as simple as that. The option is still there, but you can just carry on your way and not let it effect you.

I agree that Mike does have a tendency to put in the last word (which is usually his own point of view) and close the thread, when in reality the comment he usually says isn't pleasant. Like someone hanging up the phone during an argument.

If the thread is going somewhere I would let it burn out. The threads that get closed are literally the hot topics. So be it. The last few times I have had a sit down with members at a meet they have political discussions. I tune myself out and see what's around or hear what music is playing. Same as I do here. If I don't like the thread I don't chime in.

The threads seem to get closed if the opinion of the MOD (Not just Mike) is different then the thread starter or the way the thread is going. That's the bottom line.

Seriously though, which is worse - the people who call out mods on the forum or the ones who run to mommy because they are "offended" about something? I'd say if you are looking to ID the childish behavior we should start with "no one likes a tattletale."

In the end, my classy friend Voula summed up my take on things and I agree with her. There are plenty of other places to play rough. I appreciate this site and thank Mike and all the Mods for keeping things to a dull roar around here. It's a pretty thankless job at times but some-body's got to do it...

I wasn't civil. You got me. Your attitude of throwing out hypotheticals as if we're all wrong and our poor dumbasses just don't know any better, isn't exactly winning you any goody-two-shoes awards either.

You "noted your thoughts" and used your "I know better, this will not work because a company fired me" experience as a justification to why you're right and everyone else (who's arguing against tax hikes) is wrong. I simply responded and let you know your company is the exception, and what would happen in most cases under that scenario.

^^^ I totally forgot about Kansas! I agree! The most scenic way to drive through there is at night during a snow storm. In a pinch, tied up and blind folded in a trunk also works well too. Iowa still smells worse though. Flying over it certainly helps with that. Just ask a motorcyclist. They'll tell ya!

I kid though. Seriously Iowa, I do appreciate the fact that the over powering smell of pig doo-doo helps keep the terrorists away. :beer:

I'm a little punchy today. My brain was cooked to a crisp, yet light and tender flakey, golden perfection while out riding. It's served on a bed of hash browns and your choice of sausage links or bacon and a bottonless pot of coffee for just $8.95. I'm still to the right of Ann Coulter though so nothing was seriously damaged.

I don't care what happened on American Chopper. Nancy Grace won't raise a fuss when I kick off. I don't care what color your used Mercury is either. Why do you? I know some of you do, I don't know why though.

I am going to ride the Iowa/Mn state line this summer. 177 miles of gravel. Once I hit South Dakota I'm heading north for a bit. Butte Montana is where I'm going. Along the way I hope to learn some Spanish from a book and hope to put it to use on a later cycle trip through Central America. No GPS, no maps, no food and no plan. I have a tent, a bag, some tools, a few spares and enough room for 3 days worth of clothes. The only goal (aside from seeing where Evel Kneivel is buried) is to lose the remainder of my ego and pride.

Hell, I can't even be the first person to circle the globe on a cycle. People have done it on 50cc mopeds, shovelhead choppers, and 50 year old Indians.

Anyone that thinks they're in control of anything is fooling themselves. I nearlly get killed everyday and have never been more alive.

But, it's not just me, it's millions of other American workers.

(Just picked up brake parts (from Motorcraft; made in China) and suspension parts ("Genuine Ford Parts" on the label; made in United Kingdom) for my LS.)

I lost my job in 2007 at age 64, so, in retrospect, it was good for me because I was considering retiring anyway, (In effect, I got paid to retire.)

But, I know way too many people (friends, relatives, etc) that were not as fortunate, or as old, as I am.

I feel bad for them.

When my Dad died in 2000 he left behind a 1999 Buick Park Avenue. It had 1,700 miles on it. It was his pride and joy. He used to take pride in buying the town doctors used Park Avenue when he traded off every two years. That was a major accomplishment for him, to actually drive the Doctors car. As a farmer, trust me, it really was. Then one day he was able to buy a new one. On the dash he placed a little brass plaque with his name on it.

The car was sold at auction to cover the Death Tax. The new owner almost certainly tossed that plaque in the trash a few minutes after bringing it home. What you hold dear, is meaningless to everyone else. Trust me.

I've been here for 6 years and I've watched people scrap and argue about the stupidest things. I watched it split in half because one idiot got butthurt over a bruised ego.

Well said, my friend. I worked at a family owned bakery for 14 years and the owners were all millionaires. Most miserable bunch of people I've ever seen. Nothing to look forward to as they had everything they could want but still wanted more.

Political threads are popular because politics got a lot more important for people in the last few elections, and a lot more people are getting involved. Like it or not, politics has a huge effect on our hobby - from the price of gas, to the price of cars and the financing for these, to what manufacturer stays in business or gets sold to italy or china, to what we can get away with as far as modifications go for emissions and so on.

And this is visible on every car forum, not just this one.

Niagara falls on both sides of the border could be a possibility, i love that area. Toronto is a great destination as well.
