Not sure about that one, but the tech that took care of our cars/suvs at work drives a older Festiva that has 300,000K on it and never a major repair. Somewhere between 35-40mpg IIRC. Now, he is meticulous about maintenance. Oil gets changed every three weeks or so. Yep he commutes 200 miles a day. :rolleyes: I'd go nuts....

I have a 1990 Festiva....These cars are bullet proof. Mine has 238K and runs like a top....40mpg. The base engine is a Mazda B3, but there are several easy swaps (B6, B8) from escort GTs or Mazda Proteges. Some are even turbo'ing them if you want a little more oomph.

I bought mine for my kid but I've really enjoyed driving it. It's peppy, great gas mileage, has zero blind spots cause its all windows. Even has automatic lap belts!!

They've grown in popularity recently because of their reliability and gas mileage. Used to you could find them on CL for $500 to $600...Now, more like $800 to $1K. I'd buy another one for $500 if I could find one.

EDIT: Looked at your link....That's an 89 and less desireable than the 90s and above. The 88 and 89 were carburated. 90s and above FI. You can find them for MUCH cheaper for a beater too...

Good friend has one on his farm put big mud tires on frt and lets the kids drive it around. You cant kill that thing...

I used my big brother's to pass my driving test years ago, and wish it were still around. By big brother, not quite bigdogjim...but 6'4" and 250lbs big brother. It was fun flying through DC in third gear in that little thing. It will be one of those or a vw diesel rabbit truck or older jetta.

Save up a little more and get a Focus....decent gas mileage and more stuff comes standard. Better looking too IMHO.

I would rock a pinto if I could find a decent one... the uglier the better. I like focuses too, but I want to make a statement when I save gas. A svo mustang would be alright too. That festiva was so, so.... well... lets just say overdone, I had to share it. What's with the elf behind it? Is it an angry elf? :lol:

I had an 89 4cyl mustang, and the fuel economy wasn't anything worth writing home about... I can't imagine a turbo added on to that would make for a great mileage vehicle... I have always wondered though, the 2.3 duratec from the later rangers, in a mustang, would probably get pretty darn good mileage... not to mention have the power of the earlier SVOs (~150hp).
