The original Die Hard was based on a book called "Nothing Lasts Forever" (Good read, little bit different than the movie) this book was a sequel to a book called "the Detective" There was a movie of the same name, I think Sinatra was in it.

Was actually looking for Century City. I got to see Nakatomi building about four years ago, quite different on the inside than depicted in the movie, but the Elevator banks were the same. They had a model of the movie set in the lobby
