Should you drive with O/D on or off ?

Just driving around, no reason to leave it off.

If you are gonna be goosing it, especially frequently and you know it, the consensus is to turn it off as to not have to shift between that O/D band and constantly put stress on it.

Many people drive with it off in city/suburbs type driving. On the interstates you'll kill any MPG if you leave it off. However, ALWAYS turn it off before going full throttle on a down shift for a pass ect. There is a small costly stub in the tranny that breaks on occaision if you just hammer the gas without turning off the OD.

I never turn mine off on the beater marauder. I like having OD at 35 MPH as there is plenty of torque to move the car. I just don't lock the converter till 46 MPH. I get really good mileage this way.

First 2 things I do when I turn the key is turn off the O/D and traction control! :D :burn: :burnout:

I think it's a weak point on every 4R70W transmission, and consequently I think it's one of the things they addressed in the 4R75W...

really? I have done some WOT runs in my 2000 CVPI and nothing has happened (where's the darn wood! lol. Knock Knock Knock.)

so do the 2004 marauders with the 4R75W not have this issue?

I've daily driven my 99 F150 (4R70W) with a 5.4L from day one when it was brand new until now. I always turned off OD for in-town driving. I even cruise at anything 55mph or lower with no OD. Never changed fluid or anything and just now it is finally slipping on the 2-3 shift on occasions.

I plan on driving the MM the same way - only with a little more love.
