Honestly, I can't take it seriously with the power numbers they are putting out. If they mustered up numbers like we're seeing from an SHO, oh man that'd be a different story and truly worthy to pick up the Grand National name. Maybe a special GNx package with more power will pop up later?

And when that happens I'll be the first to get it

I would actually really like to see Buick offer up a serious power performer again, they'd been relegated to "grand-pas" and it's a shame seeing where they started out at. :(

I hate FWD, ahem, excuse me, WRONG wheel drive. That said, I have driven the current Regal turbo with a six speed manual. I can safely say it is far and away the best driving FWD car I've ever been in, especially the ones with the adjustable suspension. I like this GS version too, looks great. However, you guys are right, a Grand National it is not.....hence Buick not calling it a GN.....

Buick is coming out with a RWD luxury sedan based on the new Caprice police car. Now THAT I am looking forward to.

Said it before and I will say it again. Modern cars keep getting uglier, I don't care what the power output is.

Read some nice stuff on the new Dodge Charger, and I've never been a MoPar man.

But, at the NY Autoshow, one Charger on a revolving platform really looked nice.

Buick has NOT produced a car since the Grand National that can keep up to the 1987, thats a lot of years to offer dog's! Here's another one that is a Jap clone!

Why do Europeans get the 300+HP engine? I thought all they wanted to drive were diesels.

BTW, this article is from April 2010. This was speculation from GM and yet another let down on what the car really is.

"The Regal is a barely disguised Opel Insignia...While Europeans will get an Insignia OPC with a 325-hp, turbocharged V-6, the GS gets a higher-output version of the 2.0-liter turbo four found in the Regal."

And rayjay WANTS one of these?

Yet GM bagged Pontiac (Trans Am history, G8 GT, etc...) and my Oldsmobile. I don't get it.

I talked exstsensively with a GM salesman, car guy, about a 2011. It was beautiful, but at almost 3600#s its under powered for 220hp. He suggested I wait until the 2012s came out next month with the 255hp T2.0 No mention of a Grand National version and I'm sure if there were to be such a thing he would have mentioned it. AWD was also not mentioned.

http://blog.caranddriver.com/buick-announces-that-the-2012-regal-gs-will-have-270-hp-not-255/

here is a June 2011 article about the 2012 Regal GS

270 HP instead 255. only avail 6 speed stick at launch with 6 speed auto later on.

i think a Grand National based off of the Camaro would be cool. but turbo'd V-6 from the camaro to stay true to the GNX. (yes i know the stock v6 in the camaro is not turbo'd)

Just another GM jelly bean with big wheels and 2 more doors than the GTO, which they also struck out on.

As one who has reached "grand-pa" status age-wise, us older guys were brought up with cars in our blood, as opposed to our parents/grandparents who thought cars were mostly just for transportation.

We may be old, but we ain't dead yet when it comes to cars.

I own a 2004 Lincoln LS8 Sport, 2003 retro TBird, 94 4.6 TBird LX, and a 64 Galaxie.

When I was younger, I owned an 1989 TownCar. Go figure.

Competition: Acura TSX, Audi A4, BMW 328i, Infiniti G37, Lincoln MKZ.

It looks like all the Buick "designers" did is let a photoshop program merge all 5 of the "competition" cars together and this is what oozed out of the printer... I think they forgot one, the Nissan Maxima, from the looks of the front end. What a POS! :puke:

Wow. This news is over a year old. The cars are already out on the streets and driving around. It's an Opel clone, not a jap clone. I don't know what this has to do with grand nationals, but 220HP out of a 2.0L isn't too shabby.

I think this is probably a more pertinant article for this discussion:

GM had to change they way they cast blocks to get a aluminum block to with stand the hp on the 2.0. Went to precision casting.

Not an Opel clone, a re-badged Opel... ;)

As for the article:
"...there's really no way to launch the new Regal Turbo with any authority. No matter what we did, it sort of shambled off the line like a college student on the way to an 8 a.m. class. But the engine wakes up as it passes 4 grand on the tachometer and the result is OK acceleration — 8.4 seconds from zero to 60 mph with the traction control off and 16.2 seconds in the quarter-mile at 89.7 mph...the new Regal Turbo is... comfortable and more efficient, but it also lacks character. There's no noticeable exhaust note, no thrills to be had and the Ecotec isn't the smoothest-running four on Earth."

Translation: YAWN...:cool4:

Once it gets a manual, then you'll be able to get wheels like this and stuff like that.

Good read--meaning all your replys. Let face facts for some of us the cars of yesteryear will never, never be matched.

One note Ford did hit a home run with the 6 cylinder mustang other than not much to get excited about.

I had a '70 X-100 marauder and while the '03 is a great car now it still does not re-place my first love.
