You know Papillion, I always thought that would be a good idea for a restaurant. You get an authentic Chicago guy to make Chicago cuisine (Italian Beef, Combo's, Chicago dogs, Chicago Pizza) and an Authentic New Yorker to make New York Cusiine. Split the restaurant, decorate half Chi town, half Big Apple, and start yelling matches between the two sides. I'd call it
"Two Cities"

Oh man, that's the combo (Italian beef and italian Sausage dipped in the juice from the beef and topped with Hot Giardinara) It was so damn good, Just Bob and I each sucked down two of them that night. :D

BTW, I managed to only gain 2lbs while on vacation (thankfully was able to hit the gym a few times to minimize the damage)

Though I prefer the thin NY pizza, Chicago is the best place Ive ever been for great chow generally. If I lived there I shutter to think of what I would weigh. Great photos as well!

That's genius and would be PERFECT in the Times Square area!!! You should get on that :D

Nice pics!

Your dad must be very proud of his boys taking him out like that on his birthday.

Your idea for a resturaunt would be a hit!
I can easily see it on an episode of "Diners Drive-ins and Dives"

I hope I look like him. Dude is 80 years old, in great health and everyone thinks he's 61. He had no idea we were doing this for him. My sisters and nieces still live in Chicago, but my Brother and I don't. Dad knew I was coming home for Vacation, but we suprised him with my Brother just walking in. Then on the day of the game, we told him the whole family was taking him to breakfast, boom the limo showed up. then we said "Just going to the game" next thing you know we are on the field, then had a private lunch set up, and great seats. It was such a great day. I've only seen my Dad cry 3 times, all during sad occassions, but he got choked up on this day.

I've become a HUGE fan of Portillo's, especially The Combo! Haven't tried it with the Giardinara topping yet - next time I'm in the Windy City!! :woot:

If you like a little bit of spice, it's absolutely awesome. Take pics when you do, also the smile on your face afterwards, that's the kodak moment I failed to capture :D

Looks like you had an amazing time Brad. Even I like going to Wrigley. And to go on the field is awesome. I did that with my dad in Yankee Stadiums last year. He is a Yankees fan so we went to a Sox Yankees game. We walked onto the field and all over the ballpark. It was the most memorable time I had with my dad. Christ. I have a seat back and a turnstyle from Wrigley!!

Thanks so much for sharing this story with us all. Being a Chicago native and going back there next week with my Marauder to visit my 83 year old dad made me smile to see what you all did! Having a day at Wrigley was AWESOME and then of course the best food in the world to enjoy too!

Well I hope my dad enjoys our visit as much as your dad did his. But this is just a summer vacation and some house restoration for dad to make his life better!

Thanks again and Marauder on!

Dave :)

The one thing I am learning from my Dad as he grows older, while days like this are precious and he cherishes everyone of them, what means the most to him is having his family together. It's funny, we'll all be sitting around talking about our lives, and Dad just get's this look on his face of such pride in what his four children have become, and I think thats what really gets to him.

Thanks for the kind words Dave, and certainly enjoy that Chicago cuisine

Brad-
Thanks for the pics and story of your Dad's surprise day----

Those of us in Carolina Marauder group got an early heads up of this story a few weeks ago while doing the pool party gathering at Rex's house---

Brad was so pumped up telling us this story how he and his brother and sisters were in on it and all--why we all were made to feel we were with him on his special day--

Am so glad you were able to share his day and have so much fun--as has been said here already-----

Memories can never be erased --and that's all we got..

GREAT !!
