View Full Version : If you've ever ran your MM flat out for 1 mile. I need input.

I've raced out at the Salt Flats before in my stang and while fun, in honesty I showed up to a knife fight with a nuke for the 130 club. I was at 130 at the 1/2 mile. :burnout:

The 130 club you get 1 mile to reach 130-139.999. Any slower no-go into the club, any faster and you get a DQ.

I tried to talk the wife into taking her Cobra out there but its just as fast as the fox and she'd rather go down the 1/4 with slicks instead.

sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooo....

I think it would be fun to see what the MM could do. When I was down there last a fellow had an older LT1 Caprease and was just BARELY unable to make it at 128-129mph after repeated runs. He had the seats out and it was mostly stock.

My MM has the mods in the sigs, plus I would remove obviously any extra non-essential weight but would leave the seats in of course (unless I'm at 129.999 then the bitches are coming out) I would also be running my dads OEM 05' stang tires/wheels. They are thinner and work better on the salt. They have a 235/55/17 tire so my 4.10's would feel like 4.30's but it would be a benefit because I'd be able to get a bit more umph in OD.

Anyone done a mile run in a MM that wasn't modded to the nuts?

The other HUGE factor against me is elevation. 4500ft. Air density will likely be in the 6000's

The car runs 15.2 @ 92mph.

I will also be running some 100 unleaded and will add a few degree's of timing via the hand held.

I've run our SB at over 125mph at an undisclosed location and had pedal left. What slowed me back down was the drive shaft vibration and I didn't feel like finding out what a tail shaft failure feels like at speed.

If you are going to try w/o an MMX or very balanced DS I would at least get a DS loop and trailer the MM as you maybe trailering it home if the TS goes plooey.

I feel the MM is good for 140's at least perhaps low 150's if drag and lift doesn't necessitate slowing down. JMO

Make sure your tires are rated for the speed you want to go and are properly inflated.

Helmet of course and post up the video if you go for it.:)

You should be able to make it w/full interior. I ran on a 8000' "closed" runway and made 130+ and still had time to slow down for the turnout at the end. I still had the stock rear tire size and I still have 3.55's in the rear. I'm making about the same rwhp as you.

I've had the car to 145mph before on the road going out to the salt flats (ironic isn't it).

I'm not concerned about the car's ability to handle speed. I'm concerned if the car will have enough thrust and if she'll have enough pull in OD to do it.

Good to know, I'll be battling the Salt. It has a rolling resistance about 10% more than asphalt. Hopefully it won't be wet like last time I went. I was sideways at 120mph.

Edit: a DS Loop is mandatory so I'd need to install one anyway.

That doesn't sound like fun at all!!
Good Luck! Get some video if you can but lots of pictures will do in a pinch.

Okay here's what I got. With my wheel/tire/gear combo I plan on running
I'm good for 120-123 in 3rd at 6250rpm
OD will then come in at...4250rpm I'll finish out around 4750ishrpm (134)
I think thats enough, its pretty close to peak TQ to keep the car chugging forward.

I would throw a shot of nitrous on it but its not allowed in the 130 class.

Sweet!
Here's an old one of me as viewed from the other guy. I was holding back a little at the start to see how the GTP was going to launch. You can just see my car at the end of the video through the GTP's windshield.
Had to brake hard for the end - 130+ mph as indicated on the speedo.
My speedometer is pretty much dead on as verified by the GPS indicated speed - GPS installed after this video. I did have a trip log from this runway w/146mph top speed!

You can have a perfectly balanced banana but at a certain rpm it will fly apart.

Yes indeed! I think I got the last run that day the local Police came around and asked "what are you guys up to?" Of course grillsw we fired up and they almost bought the "cookout" thing:lol:

That was good day and near the end of the day I took a ride at topend of for a while...My stock marauder ran at about 127 and no vibarations of any kind, sliced through the air like a missle!

Those were the good old days Paul and Jim!!

We may or may not have something like that again but at least we had it then!

On a closed road I've had the marauder to 140 on the speedo. I didnt feel any vibration, however, when I stopped later. I found out the rear trans seal was leaking at the output shaft. Not pouring out but dripping enough to need fixing. I got it fixed and a few months later did the same thing and had the same outcome. I was told by the guys here and other people that the unbalanced driveshaft can vibrate just enough to ruin the seal.
Have fun and good luck!

Well I found a local yard that has 3 CVPI driveshafts for 75$ each. I searched on the forum and found some signs of what to look for to make sure they are the right ones.

This is prolly something I should do anyway since I have 4.10's
