i came across what i think is a great deal on a 03 MM with 47k miles on it for 10k and its flawless. guy got it for free and is selling it because he doesn't care for it he is a chevy guy. only problem is the car sat so long it needed a new fuel pump ...i believe the car sat for about almost a year maybe more before he got it and he replaced it. so my question is WHAT IS THE ILL AFFECTS ON THESE MOTORS SITTING SO LONG? i will do a test drive, but what issues am i bound to have or is it fine? opinions please and thanks

Sounds like a good deal.. but def run a car fax in case its been wrecked. I dont think the engine would be damaged from sitting. Just do a oil change on it..and maybe the tranny not sure on that one though.

I would drain the oil before cracking it up since your not sure how long it really sat. Fuel pump issue is petty stuff.

Where did it sit? I'd take a good look under it. Change the oil. If you buy it run the old gas out of it quickly and put some decent brand name gas in it. This will help start breaking up any varnishing that may have got itself going. Check the tyres out real good for any indication of dry rot. These are minor issues but might give you an idea of costs that you may need to lay out in the near future. But if all seems well and the car checks out on your test drive it is a good price for a fairly low mile MM.:)

sitting for a year isnt bad. fuel pump is minor issue. i just purchased a green 1996 impala ss with 88k on the clock for 5500.00 not going to keep it; love my MM. just got it because the deak was good after checking the book value figured i could make a small profit.

What I did when I got the 27,000 mi SB with S/C.
Changed ALL the fluids including brake, rear diff, power steering, tranny. Changed the S/C oil altho told only 100 mi on the new engine. Also the fuel filter was pretty rusty inside.
I wanted piece of mind.
