Funny you should say that! I was in the garage in my marauder detailing the interior for a car show this weekend. When i saw the garage start to shake first. I was thinking it was just a freak thunderstorm passing through (we have quite a few of those lately) and it was just a strong wind. But then I felt the marauder start to shake with me in it! I am over in an 8 story building in Merrifield, VA. We were moving about 2-3 inches side to side. Biggest that I have ever felt. Pretty serious shake in this part of Virginia. Understand that it was centered in Mineral County down near Richmond/Charlotteville, VA area.

Wonder if this is the infamous New Madrid, MO fault line that runs up through VA, PA, Long Island and Boston, MA. Last big quake there was in 1812.

Phone lines are all tied up. No cell .... no landline for the most part. Internet is up. Check FaceBook for information. That may be the emergency communications of the future. ;)

How you guys like our VA style quake? We ok around here. I'm about 70 miles from the epicenter. My brother lives in mineral which is 9 miles from the center, he is ok too. He said more stuff fell of his walls than me.

I was sitting here just got off the phone with a customer and my roll up door started shaking harder and harder. I thought the chinese carryout guy was pushing on it. So I started walking back there then I felt the ground move, then I knew what it was. So I ran back to the front of the shop where my dad is, yelling get the **** out! Right before we got out the door I heard stuff starting to fall of the walls.

I ran around the back of the building to check things out. Went back inside and pulled the convertible mark 8 out incase we had more quakes.

Definatly a different experience. We have quantico marine corp base close to us and they are always blowing things up and the roll up door shakes. So the door shaking didn't bother me at first. It just kept going and going this time.

Looks like from that google map posted earlier that my bro was about 3 miles due east of the center.

Funny tweets:

After Washington DC realized that the earthquake was nothing to worry about, they took to Twitter to joke about the cause. Some of the best ones below:

@TPCarney: Krugman says it wasn't big enough.

@comradescott: Evidently the quake occurred on a little known fault line outside of DC called "Bush's Fault". #tcot #p2

@calebhowe: Breaking: Obama administration points out they "inherited" fault lines from previous administrations.

@MaizeBlueNation: Fox News claims the Washington monument is leaning to the right, MSNBC claims it's leaning to the left. More news at 11.

@charliespiering: I won't stop shaking until Obama makes a speech telling me that everything is ok and that he has a plan

@Ben_Howe: As all of DC leaves work at the same time, the United States experiences a brief economic recovery. <----my fav!

@daveweigel: Was all set to loot in Dupont circle, then realized all we have are taco and cupcake stores.

@JimPethokoukis Shot: Virginia Earthquake Chaser: Hurricane Irene

@politicoroger POLITICO had the earthquake story yesterday.

Biden Meets With Tsunami Survivors in Japan
By MARTIN FACKLER (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/f/martin_fackler/index.html?inline=nyt-per)

Published: August 23, 2011

NATORI, Japan — Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/b/joseph_r_jr_biden/index.html?inline=nyt-per) met with survivors of the Japanese tsunami and spoke at an airport that was reopened just a month after the disaster with American military help, in a visit aimed at highlighting strengthened ties with Japan.

On Tuesday, Mr. Biden repeatedly spoke of the friendship between the nations, saying that he had no doubt Japan would have come to America’s aid if the tables had been turned.

I was on a conference call with Los Angeles and Bethpage, NY. We told the guys in LA to pause the brief because we were having an earthquake (us this time instead of them). They thought we were joking. About a 30 - 60 seconds later the guy NY said he just felt the quake there.

All OK here. It shook the area pretty good. They closed the Harry Nice bridge to Virginia at 2:15 for inspection.

They also evacuated the nuclear plant for inspection. No problems at either site, just making sure.

The President has just confirmed that the DC earthquake occurred on a rare and obscure fault-line, apparently known as "Bush's Fault".
