is there an independent leveling system per side on our cars? or is there one leveler for the rear?
i may have
ive noticed the driver side doesn't lift as high as the passenger but it does lift. its not causing the car to lean but its obvious looking at the space between the car and tire on each side.
could it be a bad air bag or the level is off? or is it even in its own way?

One level sensor for both wheels. I remember this topic coming up years ago about the difference from one side to the other. Our conclusion was to just deal with it. Its normal.

I thought the driver side was higher on purpose to compensate for the drivers weight.

It's the passenger side that's higher.
I hate it too. (At least it's not just mine!).

There is actually a separate feed from the RAS module to each air bag solenoid, so in theory it's possible for the wiring to one side to be faulty causing it to lift or lower crooked.

My driver's side is higher than my passenger side (thankfully).

My driver's side is lower, like Paul said, I've just learned to live with it.

My passenger side is annoyingly higher. I wonder if resetting the switch and letting the air out and then turning it on may help?
