Hey everyone,
I'm possibly going to look at a 1968 Mercury Cyclone GT (in rough shape) nearby and was wondering where I can get a list of VIN code/letters for 1967-1969 to take with me so I can verify the factory options as I don't believe the engine is stock. I'm not sure if it's listed properly so I'll need a range of those 3 years.
Also, is there a definitive place to locate replacement parts for this beast?
Thanks in advance!
Brian
A '67 looks nothing like a '68-'69...
VINs have 11 digits and break down as follows
1st is last digit of year(7, 8 or 9 for years listed)
2nd is assly plant, all Mercury intermediates were built in Lorain OH(code H)
3rd & 4th are body code, a GT fastback will be 15 for '68 & '69, Cyclone CJ are 16('69 only)
5th is engine code, most common is probably the "S" code 390GT engines but could have a C('67, '68 289) F(302 2bbl), J(302 4bbl, 68 only) H or Y(390 2bbl), R('68 428CJ, & '69 428CJ with ram air), Q 428CJ non-ram air('69 only)
6 thru 11 are consecutive build and have zero to do with any vehicle info...
Yes I have this info memorized...
You can select year info from this site, problem is it is not Cyclone specific... http://www.mercurystuff.com/

Well, right now I'm not sure. I haven't seen the car in person, only photos. I didn't know if there were any parts companies such as Dearborn making re-man Cyclone parts. I just want to factor in the difficulty of finding replacement parts into my decision of whether or not this would be a good deal. I owned a 1972 Gran Torino Sport about 15 years ago and it was impossible to find parts, so I don't want to be in the same situation as before.

My brother had a 68 Cyclone GT with a 390 in, that car was awsome.... Good luck with it if you buy!
