I just bought a used supercharger for my future Eaton Swap. Was told it had about 40k. Is it normal for some of the black coating(Teflon?) to be missing? I'd say about 10 percent is gone mainly around the edges. Also it spins freely with no funny noises but there is a little play when I move the pulley back and forth and when the rotors actually move. No play between the rotors themselves. What's normal?

A true "sweet deal" is hard to find these days. You get what you pay for, so, check it out with reservation, eh?

For 40k, that's about right. You'll have a little of the teflon coating gone around the edges. What you want to do is quickly rotate the pulley back and forth just a half inch to an inch either way and see if you hear a slight knocking noise. If it's slight, no biggie, if it's loud, you would need a new coupler (about $15.00). SC oil/fluid is good for another 40k.

Thats word for word what jared @ Lethal said. He also mentioned you could use microfine paper and smooth the edge were you see that. But if I could do it all over I would have had my 2.3 redone before install as it has a rear case bearing starting to make a little noise (ever so slight) so eventually it will have to come back off. used parts are used parts. I would at the least Josh replace the coupler it's cheap and easy to do.
