I plug my xcal2 up key off and go to the tune it says "4 edits left" but I can't edit anything. Am I doing something wrong or are the settings locked?

I think that is how many times you can return it back to stock and then put a tune from the tuner back in the car.

So you're saying its only so many times I can get a tune with that xcal?

That sounds right or how many different vehicles it can be used on. You can ask DR on it to get a confirmed answer.

WELL I'VE FOUND OUT HOW TO EDIT MY CURRENT TUNES LOADED ON THE XCAL ....AND ALMOST EVERYTHING WAS SET TO ZERO OR STOCK. for the car to have been tuned on the dyno I shouldn't be seeing that correct?
Shift pressure was at 25
Speed limiter was off
And a few other things like the rev limiter was changed the idle rev or speed in neutral etc...

Stock means it reads the stock computer setting or what it originally was programed. Most stuff you will want to leave at zero. Only things you should mess with is shift pressure (if yours is on 25 then you need the j-mod instead), shift mph, and redline. 750 rpms for idle is a good setting if it wasn't on it.

Incorrect.

Correct.

The "five" limit, is the number of VINs you can change before it locks out.
You can return your car to stock and re-enter a tune back in as many times as you want - providing it's on THAT VIN.
This is how SCT keeps people buying their products. Smart really - from a business standpoint.

^Yep!

Once it's been used on five vehicles then it will lock and you'd have to take it to an SCT dealer to have it unlocked and pay whatever fee they charge to do it. Every time the vin changes it records it, that's even including switching the device between 2 vehicles back and forth. I used my X3 on my MM first (1 edit) then got a tune for my Taurus and used it on that ( 2 edits now) so now I have 3 edits left.

Just to add -
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think I read that if you were to tell SCT that you used all 5 on your XCal2, they don't support an "un-lock" anymore. This way they push you into an XCal3 or more. Getting too old. (Once again, good business practice).

Don't you have to change the car back to stock before you can use it on another car? Anotherwords, you can't program 5 cars at the SAME TIME?

Yes / no.
For example: you tune your MM. Then go back to stock.
So now you can go tune your 2011 Mustang Shelby (:D).

Your XCal2 now has registered (stored) 2 of the five VIN changes.

Yes you can go back to your MM...but...remember that you have to return the Mustang back to stock, so that you could return to the MM. That means your MM VIN will register again (even though it's the same car).
That's 3 times that is had a VIN reading.
MM / to Mustang / back to MM = 3 VINs.
