The original Hamm's was established in 1865 when Theodore Hamm, a German (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germany) immigrant, inherited the Excelsior Brewery from his friend and business associate, A. F. Keller. Keller had constructed his brewery over artesian wells (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artesian_well) in a section of the Phalen Creek valley in Saint Paul, Minnesota (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Paul,_Minnesota), known as Swede Hollow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swede_Hollow). Hamm hired Christopher Figg to be his masterbrewer, and by the 1880s the T. Hamm Brewing Company was reckoned the second largest in Minnesota.
His son, William, and grandson, William Jr. inherited the operation in 1903. During Prohibition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition_in_the_United_Stat es) the company survived by producing soft drinks and other food products, leaving it in a position to expand rapidly through acquisitions after the repeal of Prohibition in 1933. In 1968 the company was acquired by Heublein (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heublein), which sold it to Olympia Brewing Company (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympia_Brewing_Company). Pabst then purchased Olympia along with Hamm's in 1983. Miller Brewing acquired the brand in 1999. Miller was later purchased by South African Breweries and the name changed to SABMiller. Subsequently, SABMiller formed a joint venture combining their US & Puerto Rican assets with those of MolsonCoors to form MillerCoors the current owner and brewer of the Hamm's Brand.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamm's_Brewery#cite_note-0) MillerCoors now produces three Hamm's Beers, Premium, Golden Draft, and Special Light.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamm's_Brewery#cite_note-1)
The Hamm's brewery in San Francisco opened in 1954 at 1550 Bryant Street, close to the Seals baseball stadium. The brewery closed in 1972. In the early 1980s, the beer vats were rented out to punk rock bands, and it was a used as music studios until the building was renovated and turned into offices.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamm's_Brewery#cite_note-2)
[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hamm%27s_Brewe ry&action=edit&section=2)] Products

Hamm's is often one of the cheapest beers found on the shelf - roughly $1–$2 less than most national brands for a 30-pack is common. This factor has made it enduringly popular with drinkers on a budget, like college students.
Several beers are produced: the original Hamm's Premium, a pale lager (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lager); Hamm's Golden Draft; and Hamm's Special Light.

Well Phil you may be right on a technicality. I started drinking beer in the 80's....the 1980's not 1880's like yourself. You most likely were drinking the real Hamm's before it was bought by Pabst and they turned it to swill.

Um, a technicality would be that it's made elsewhere but distributed from Minn.

Never cared for Hamm's. Actually, I was a huge fan of Schlitz back in the 60's. It was the number two selling beer in the country back then. Dunno what happened but it went to crap. It's owned by Stroh's now and ain't half bad. Anyone hear of Burghermeister?

Your never to drunk for Schritz!!:D My dad drank Schlitz when I was a kid. His favorite was a beer brewed in Trenton NJ, Black Horse Ale I think it was. No longer brewed as I understand.

I drank Rolling Rock til Budweiser bought it now I like Yuenglings products and I try micro-brews from time to time. Have to keep an eye out for the silly name beers as many of them are brewed by the Budweiser's of the world trying to capitalise on the small craft brewers.

I beg to differ, sir.

Well maybe the owner of the Chicago team should let a few moths out of his wallet. Chicago is a large market and I'm sure there is big TV money streaming into the owners pockets.
So the Yankee's spend and they make the playoffs. Maybe if Chicago spent some dough they'd make the pre-show too.:)

Cubs HAVE spent more than in the old days, but still suck right now. Since 1984, they have made it to the playoffs 6 times, which is good. From 1945 to 1984, they never made it even once. Some day they will win the World Series, and it will be very, very special.
