View Full Version : Nite Shades Invalidates Warranty

Here's one for y'all to chew on: :D

Went in to the dealer to check a possible seal leak on the trunk and an oil change. Also took it in to have a piece of trim checked on the left tail light.

I had heard a rattle when closing the trunk and found out that the black corner piece under the tail light was loose on one end. Since it's part of the tail light assembly I am guessing I might have to replace the whole thing, but I digress.

They told me they glued it back in place (which I told them to do because I had a road trip and didn't want it loose whether or not it needed to be replaced). They told me that since I had painted the tail lights (Nite Shades) it would invalidate my warranty on the tail light replacement.

Being ready for this possibility --

I looked him straight in the eye and said. "Sure, I'll pay for it as soon as they can prove that my painting the tail light 8 months ago caused this piece of trim (which has no paint on it) to come loose last week. If they can prove that, I'll pay for it. Until then, should I decide to replace the assembly, it's on their tab."

Not sure if I want to replace it or not. It means I'll have to paint another one, or I could just keep the "broken" one (which is perfectly fine now that it's glued) and buy another one and have two sets.

Anyway, thanks to the folks on this board I had the ammunition I needed to call the ********* bluff they tried to pull on me. Violating the warranty, indeed! They can bite me. :P

Thanks,
-A

I do belive that the job and mission (of most service advisors) is look around the car and find some way to blame any and everything on a mod. Yep that's their job. Stand tall take no #$%@ from 'em!

I am so glad that I have a bunch of good (not all that bright), but good hearted bunch at my dealership.

I actually took a dremmel tool to my wife's fog lite assemblies so I could fit a slightly larger ZENON bulbs into the housings. Without even asking, while the car was in for a headlamp moisture issue, they replaced the fog lamp assy., stating they saw some condensation in there as well. I was given back the oversized zenon lamp, and they asked me what I did to make it fit, cause they couldn't get it back in. Now she has one stock, offwhite, and one blue zenon....oh well, no big deal.

But that is a great example of how I modified an item, it failed, and they replaced it, no questions asked, without my even requesting it.

So why did you want to reduce the light output from your tail lamps?

I thought the Marauder already came with a special tinting on the rear lamps for that "blacked out" effect?

Stock? Not on the tail lamps. However, when they are turned on, the "tinting effect" normally becomes transparent.

Petrograde, that's damn straight what it should look like! Some night shades are too much, or not enough, or fall off if their actual caps. But those are probably the nicest ones i've ever seen. Mom said if she were thinking of me when she bought the car, it'd be black...oh well:D

Ah I see. So you painted it on the outside?

I'm not a fan of tinting my lamp lenses but whatever floats your boat :D

"To each his own" Metroplex :D

Besides,.. if we all had the exact same mods that would be pretty boring! lol

Marauder taillights are darker than a stock CV or CVPI taillights. Some people just want them even darker

To answer a previous question, it does not reduce light output at all. The (normally) brightest part of the light assembly and the reflectors are still uncovered.

The reason why I did it? It looks too damn cool. The rear of the car just looks evil with the extra black. I honestly can not find even the slightest flaw with how mine came out - the spray was absolutely even and clean - and with no overspray because I was careful with masking. Most people who see the car think it came that way -- which of course is always nice to hear.

Part of me wants to file it just to make them do it, but then I would have to either buy another one so I could have two sets or paint the new one. I really don't care as long as the plastic trim piece stays on. It's when people become asses that I get vindictive. I don't care if it's $0.35 or $300. It's all about the principles. ;)

Thanks,

See, now in your line of work, I would have thought it is all about the principals....

Now that just makes me jealous, cuz neither is my car :) I think cruztakers lamps are what got me into tints in the first place, way early (two months ago)on when I joined the site...
